LTT content quality going down?

Hello! I know this is going to be a rather controversial topic so let me get it out- I feel the content quality of LTT as well as NCIXcom's channel is really sinking making it hard for me to recommend them.

Some of the jokes are in house which only a few long time users will truly appreciate/ have a good laugh at but newcomers will find them stupid. I'm not saying don't make jokes, but perhaps keep them for the Stream/ WAN show instead of the videos which actually attract new people. One of my buddies found the videos I recommended on the channel pretty perverted, immature, unprofessional and stupid and I actually found myself agreeing to it. Recent examples would be Linus shoving that bluetooth speaker down his pant [i feel terrible even typing this] and the vid on the NCIXcom channel in which Linus acted like being taken hostage by Jack.

I'm not saying don't crack a joke or two, but rather make jokes which the company who sends you the product and the newcomers who watch your videos will understand and appreciate. While the production quality has surely increased, the content quality has reduced a fair bit because of said jokes. I guess its just me with this opinion but the frequency and bluntness of some of the jokes are a bit of concerning to me... :(

PS- I still do appreciate the content Linus and the team creates. They are the reason I begun loving tech and begun getting involved with it, so let this be clear- I still really do enjoy watching Linus's videos and appreciate the amount of work they put into it! This is more of a concern I wanted to share and this may be the only concern like that and I am aware of that, but just wanted to bring it up regardless.

The only reason I watch Linus is BECAUSE he's unprofessional. That's the whole point of Mr. Linus. I don't want to watch some random robot review things in a monotone voice and not have a sense of humor at all.. That's not my type of unboxer.

And the problem is he's getting away from that, in a bad way i might add, i have to agree with the author of this topic, some jokes are just not to be done, i don't know if people are THAT new to the channel, but he never used to pull off a big pile of "bad" jokes on each episode before, sure he wasn't the best at the matter, but at least he was serious, and it's what made me feel getting informed and actually gain something from watching a video.

I get this impression that content quality IS sinking not only for the reasons the author has mentionned, but for much more as well.

Stop bloating nonsense, and reason to contribute in a constructive manner.

I'd agree with the NCIX part, I've found the content on their to have nose dived since Linus stopped doing most of it. the voices are often hard to understand as they don't speak clearly and seem to be trying way to hard to be funny that it just comes off stale and awkward.

LTT on the other hand I was drawn in by how it was done differently, the more casual approach appeals to me.

Could anything be less mature than this? Have we fallen so far since then?

I'm legitimately just asking...

As for the sense of humour, nothing is funny to everyone. When I take things seriously, I take flak for becoming "too boring". When I get edgier, I take flak for becoming "too immature" or whatever word you want to sub in there.

So the only way I can deal with this is to just be myself. I value every viewer, I truly do, but if someone doesn't like the content I'm making and the thing they don't like about it is my personality and sense of humour, then there's not much I can do to make myself more appealing to them is there?

The video where you stuck the Bluetooth speaker down your pants and told Slick he's in your pants was pretty funny when he said, "That's fine".

I agree with Linus on this. The reason that i subed to Linus was his personality and the nerdy humor.

He Can't satisfied everyone on YouTube. If you don't like the jokes, i have only one thing to say 'that sucks'

Though i can understand why you think the way you do, but seriously who on YouTube, that is making tech videos like Linus are not making joking arround in their videos.

It would become boring if wasn't wasn't doing so.

I actually like the direction Linus has been heading. No joke, when I catch a WAN show live and just starting..it's a mini happy moment. :v

NCIX's channel on the other hand..it kinda feels like the guys are trying too hard to be funny while when I watch Linus, he's being his typical nerdy self along with Slick. Just relax and talk about the stuff you're into, it works wonders.

While I do see your point with that older video, that was immaturity which I feel everyone will enjoy! :D I'm not saying don't joke; I love them as much as any other person as it helps keep me engaged, keeps the video casual and gives it the right balance between casual and serious, and gives me something to look forward to while watching you, but perhaps the more suggestive jokes be moved onto the Stream where people who truly appreciate them and who have followed you for a long enough time will enjoy :)

I can't speak for everyone and I know that most people will disagree with me, but I just wanted to state what I had on my mind. Sorry if anyone got angry! :) Just to restate this- I still love your content and find them extremely informative and fun, but just wanted to voice my concern. Thanks!

Wow, a person who makes fun videos that are also informative? Won't somebody think of the children!

The day Linus starts making without a inappropriate jokes is the day I unsubscribe.

i understand how newcomers may find his vids to be immature and unprofessional but imho thats what makes him different and fun to watch. One thing inhave noticed is that the intro of the vids are very professional and then linus shows up in a jacket and jeans.. not saying its bad, just the contrast is big.

I guess one suggestion would be saying "The professional, unprofessional unboxer" in the beginning of each video.

Is being unprofessional bad?

For others such as myself it is about presentation and not the jokes.

Being unprofessional is bad. But being professional doesn't mean you have to be serious and not joke around. Being professional is understanding what needs to be done and doing it with a proper execution. And that has been increases over time and is a good thing to see, instead of a bunch of edited clips where facts were forgotten and even than the edits being poor. The professionalism is always increasing. Better macro shots, better editing, better camera use. And this has come with hiring a team and making things look more professional and presentable so it doesn't look like it was rushed from someone who only knows how to cut video and nothing else.

Where I feel the unprofessionalism comes into play is sometimes it seems like things are rushed. Charts for benchmarks being mis-labeled and mis-coloured. The way you present yourself when in a shot. Hair being messy, messy background, stumbling over your words getting things mixed up. And in some aspects things have gotten better, it seems like some things are rushed a little and not much is put into double checking or personal presentation.

So than with Linus thinking of stopping unboxing in 2014 I feel some of these issues can be addressed and more quality can be put into each video. I still like the videos and will for the foreseeable future, but when your daily videos aren't presented well just so they can be daily videos that's were it seems your cutting corners just to please people who will complain that there aren't videos ever day. There always will be people complaining (about free content non the less) but that shouldn't mean professionalism is reduced just to please people.

This is just my take though.

No, but there's so much more to it than a simple "We can't get this bad" or this immature or whatever anyone want to sub in, for me personnally, it is not about that, there are just very minor aspects that don't contribute that much to immaturity but definitly hurt the quality of the content A LOT in my opinion, there's so much to improve on in LTT and NCIXcom's content, and some of it is going back to some old very successful approachs that made you reach what you've become right now.

Stop bloating nonsense, and reason to contribute in a constructive manner.
