I wish LTT would experiment with this:

I'd like to see someone test just how many oculus sensors could be hooked up to a computer and work with the rift. I'm using one more than they tell you you can so who knows how many you could actually hook up.

This would be a good task for the mobo from that 7 gamers one pc build by filling all of those extra video card slots with the recommended startech USB expansion cards from the oculus roomscale extra equipment blog post since those cards work in just about any slot bigger than x4. The cheaper inatek card would only really work for 2 sensors each from my experience.

That's 4 sensors per card if it's the 4 controller startech card across 6 pcie slots if I remember correctly. 24 sensors not including the onboard USBs.

you could get some real data by monitoring compositor frame rate drops by activating the overlay with the oculus debug tool. My hunch is that as you add more sensors, they would get worse.

Anyways, something I wish someone else would test since I can't afford to do it.

I bet the oculus software would go haywire if you tried it but boy would that be a fun thing to watch :P

Linus should water cool the USB expansion cards and the sensors for "speed".

I'm not sure if I want them to do this to see how they manage to fuck it up.

Or if I don't want them to do this, because of how they manage to fuck it up.

Come Bloody Angel

Break off your chains

And look what I've found in the dirt.

Pale battered body

Seems she was struggling

Something is wrong with this world.

Fierce Bloody Angel

The blood is on your hands

Why did you come to this world?

Everybody turns to dust.

Everybody turns to dust.

The blood is on your hands.

The blood is on your hands!

Pyo.

IMO dosen't break enough stuff for LTT

I don't know. Pretty sure it would break stuff. I've never seen anything suck up USB power like an oculus sensor. You'd probably need more than one power supply for all of those cards. Could always try them all on one barely powerful enough psu if you want to see if you can break things :P

It would also probably break whoever tests it with frame drops every split second as I predict. Keep a puke bucket handy. Tell Linus to leave the white socks and sandles home that day :P
