AMD vs Intel Build Comparison?

I have two builds that are basically the same, except one is Intel and one is AMD. Is there any major performance loss in either of these builds, or do they mostly operate the same? (and yes, to shut up all the "go for Ryzen" nuts, if there is no major performance difference i WILL be going Ryzen)

They're probably going to do similar, for now the 7500 might be a tad better for gaming, but that might change. 

 

Personally I'd get the Ryzen setup because it has an upgrade path for the next few years, the 7500 doesn't really unless you go 7700/6700k.

 

I'm not Ryzen biased, I own a 7500.

The 1500x is definitely better than the 7500. And I agree with the others, graphics cards are pretty pricey right now. Also, do you have more storage? 120GB is not much, especially if you're planning on gaming. You could add a 2TB HDD and still be under $1,000.

I doubt with the PSU choice. Any upgrades in the future will require a new psu.

 

I pick Ryzen build out of the two.

Pascal Undervolting topic, get more out of your card with less power!

Why high refreshrate monitors look better even without Freesync/G-sync in one image.

I would recommend changing the PSU if you already have storage. Pretty much any upgrade will call for an 8-pin PCI-E power connector, so I would at least get a 450w. CXM550w is around $50.

Yeah, the Ryzen 1600 at stock beats Intel's i7-7700k OC in multi-threaded work loads if I remember correctly... It just better for future proofing your system, plus, the platform of AM4 will last much longer then the 7700k's platform.

Also get a pny cs1311 instead for the ssd, it's only $1 more and much better.

 

Also you may want to get a bigger psu as 350w doesn't leave much room in the future.

2. Im more willing to kind of cut a major upgrade path for a lower power PSU because it is readily avaiable. This will most likely be the only components to be in this computer.

Get a different mobo like this one. The other one doesn't have vrm heatsinks which isn't the best if you oc.

Again my main criticism is on the gpu :P. For that price you could get a used 980 ti which would be muuuccccchhhhh faster (granted you'd need a new psu but still, you could probably get one for $300 or so which would free up money for a better psu). There was never one to begin with. I have HDDs already planned outside of the build. 3GB variant wont work for my use case. Is there some other card that might work that doesnt eat power so much?

GTX 980 perhaps? Only 4gb vram but it's more than 3gb.
