AMD Ryzen 7 worth it now?

I have a $350 dollar budget for the processor and i need a computer "right now!!". The current processor that is my number one is the 1700x is that the best choice from any platform?

Hell yeah! I don't see the reason why it isn't worth it now

like @pzspah said it depends on your use of it. and if you're going with R7 just take the 1700 and OC it a bit there's pretty much no reason to go with the other more expensive versions they are identical except for clock speeds.

Primary System

  • CPU
    Ryzen R6 5700X
  • Motherboard
    MSI B350M mortar arctic
  • RAM
    32GB Corsair RGB 3600MT/s CAS18
  • GPU
    Zotac RTX 3070 OC
  • Case
    kind of a mess
  • Storage
    WD black NVMe SSD 500GB & 1TB samsung Sata ssd & x 1TB WD blue & x 3TB Seagate
  • PSU
    corsair RM750X white
  • Display(s)

I am using it for video editing and rendering and photoshop. I have a gtx 1080 and 16gb of ddr4 ram. I think the 1700x is the best option. Is it a good overclocker?

If you're gonna overclock, you should probably go with 1700. Its cheaper and will perform the exact same with 1700x/1800x when overclocked

well for rendering in adobe it's almost all GPU work so you could cheap out allot more on your CPU if you want to save the cash. but seriously 1700 not 1700x

Yeah but Intel is not longer the value king.

Ryzen has had its major issues ironed out.

Yeah then the r7 1700 is definitely worth it for that usecase. Also the r7 1700 is better value compared to the r7 1700x especially if you are going to keep the stock cooler. With the price drop of the 1700x it is no longer as bad of a value as it used to be but it is still not as good of a value as the 1700.

Do you own a ryzen cpu? Because I don't know what problems you are referring to because I have had my r7 1700 since launch and basically all issues have been solved. I'm trying to think of the issues you could he talking about but can't think of any.

I love mine, it's a good upgrade from my 4790k

the slight ipc improvement massive cache increase and ram speed all add up to a great significance and then it's double the cores aswell

the platform is great and amd promise it will be around for at least 3 years

AMD (and proud) r7 1700 4ghz-

also (1600)

Well, consider this, the Xs are better-binned chips compared to the non-X ones.It really depends on how hardcore you want your system to be. If you have a specific budget, go for 1700. It's as good as the 1700X when overclocked but what overclock will you hit is on the silicone lottery.
