Help deciding on PSU

racer243l

Hey guys,

I´m looking into PSU´s in the 750 to 850 Watt range that feature 2x 8-pin ATX 12V CPU connectors, preferably Gold efficiency.

And finding a PSU with those connectors seems to be a pain.

However I found a few and wanted to ask you guys which one to buy.

Those are:

Cooler Master V750 Modular 80+ Gold 750W

Seasonic Prime 750W Modular 80+ Gold

Seasonic Prime 750W Modular 80+ Platinum

Seasonic Prime 850W Modular 80+ Gold

BitFenix Whisper M 850W Modular 80+ Gold

Feel free to recommend others :)

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X PBO GPU: Asus Strix RTX 3090 OC Mobo: Gigabyte X570 Aorus Master RAM: 32GB G.Skill Trident Z RGB 3600Mhz CL17

CPU Cooler: Corsair H150i Capillex Storage: Samsung 980 Pro and 970 Evo 1TB Samsung 860 EVO 1TB Crucial MX300 525GB WD Black 2TB PSU: Corsair HX1000 Case: Corsair 500D SE RGB 6x LL120

I'd go with the Seasonic Prime, whichever one is cheaper for you from the three.

I have no experience with seasonic but the prime models appeal to me out of all of those listed, platinum is a bonus and i doubt you need more than 750w so i reccoment the platinum one

PCPP says 543W (without OC obviously) so I guess you are right. But PSU´s with less then 750W rarely have the 2x CPU connectors. Thanks :)

Its nice to have a little buffer, going for 650/750 isnt horrible, are there any adapters you can buy. surely theres something, or custom cables you can purchase. No worries :)

How about Corsair RM 750 X

Doesn´t have two 8-pin ATX 12V CPU connectors and is pretty hard to get apperently

I personally choose the SeaSonic, even though i like the X series more than Prime series. Yeah go for the SeaSonic X 750W Gold or SeaSonic X at the same wattage

Well the X Series are impossible to get here in Germany :( Only scetchy amazon market place seller has one. The 850W is cheaper so I might get that one :)

All of those are really good but what are you powering? If it's the 6700K system in your signature your RM550X is plenty, even for OC.

If you plan to SLI 1080 Tis then grab yourself an 850W unit, whichever is cheapest among those choices.

|PSU Tier List /80 Plus Efficiency| PSU stuff if you need it.

It should power a X299 i7 7820x (patiently waiting to get shot xD) or Threadripper system this summer. SLI is a huge maybe :)

Well if you're certain about SLI then an 850W should be your minimum. 1080 Tis use a lot of power when overclocked and in SLI so a 1000W unit might even be justified.

Thinking back to GTX 670 days when I had SLI for a couple weeks I won´t do it again xD I will stay single card for now.
