After getting my shiny new graphics card, I knew that I needed to install the drivers. Quicky, I booted the DVD (yes, I do still use those) and downloaded the drivers. I previously used my MB for audio.

nvidia changed that.

I made the mistake to have it wipe off all other drivers, and I'm in a silent mess until I fix this. Why silent? It got rid of my sound drivers.

so, I tried everything I could. It took about an hour for me to see what I needed to do. I needed a sound card.

So, if anybody knows any cheap (internal or external) options, post below.

Im also working on somewhat of a tight budget. Try to stick near 15 bucks, but nothing over 20. I use USD. I'll be able to respond not so quickly though.

also, to anyone who has helped me with any issue on the forum, a deep, sincere thanks to you. I'm still getting started, and I know that some people are on the same road as me.

thank you.

Just reinstall your motherboard's sound drivers. There's no point in buying something external if your motherboard has good enough sound drivers lol..

There's a problem with that though.

My motherboard is actually an HP board, so it requires drivers that I can't get, because there is no version for windows 10. so, I need a sound card to make it so I have sound.

yes. it did not work.

Whats your motherboard model name? Also, just reread your original message... Did you do a custom install of just the Nvidia drivers and wipe all previous? If so, you might just need to change your audio output, as that wouldnt have wiped any non-Nvidia drivers from the system

I can't figure it out, because the thing is prehistoric. it's an old OEM board. here's a lead I can give though - it's an HP XW4600 workstation, the only modification being the USB expander and the GPU (1050 Ti)

I'm on windows 7 at work and can't remember if it is exactly the same as 10, but will be similar. Just right click the speaker icon in the system tray & click on 'Playback Devices'. There should be something in there that says something similar to 'Realtek Audio' (might not necessarily be Realtek but my work HP system has that, so is likely) and see if it set to default. If not, right click it and set it to default

Not 100% that you have the realtek but it looks like the most likely. Windows 10 drivers are available from realtek themselves below.

because I want to see how everything is actually plugged in

A screen shot of the list of installed devices from Device Manager would be good too.  Also, to see which is set as the default audio playback device for Windows.

And to update a previous post, the SoundBlaster is apparently optional and not on all XW4600's, so all the more reason a photo of the backplate would help,
