Is my graphics card failing?

KaiserV1

So for the past few weeks I've been seeing some weird stuff on my monitor. I'm finding it hard to explain it. While I was just browsing the internet, some green and black pixels appeared on the display, in a horizontal line, twice or thrice already, but only for about two seconds. Just now it happened again, also forming a horiontal line and in the same area of the monitor, but instead of pixels they were green lines. I couldn't find any images on Google that resembled what I saw. My graphics card is an R9 380, it's not overclocked and it doesn't seem to have temperature issues. I ran some benchmarks to see if the lines appeared again but they didn't. And it's not that old by the way, so it seems weird. I'm not really sure if it's the gpu or the monitor. The latter would make more sense because it's older and pretty generic, but again, I don't know. Do you guys have any idea what could it be?

Make sure you have all of your drivers updated. I had a similar issue on my old rig and that fix it for me. If not then try a different monitor and if you still have the issue then you know it's your card. take a air cannon to the ports and HDMI/DVI/DisplayPort cable to in sure it isn't dust.

That sounds more like a monitor thing especially if it was in the same area.

If it doesn't happen that much you can't do much testing but if it starts increasing in frequency you might want to come back and do some testing.

Also if it's still in warranty an rma could be considered but if it can't be easily duplicated I'm not sure how well that would go.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

It could be the drivers. I haven't upgraded them in a while because I have to uninstall everything every time I want to update them. I'm building myself a new PC with the same GPU in a few days, so I'll see if it keeps happening.

It's one of those dumb suggestions, but double-check your cables, make sure everything's making proper contact, isn't twisted or bent and try again. It is up there with "make sure the green light is on", I know, but you'd be surprised how many experienced people I've seen completely overlook their display connectors.
