x299 bad cores communication letancy?

Hey guys, im looking to get X299 cpu, but i've read that the core to core communication on the new platform is worse than Broadwell-E.

I am going to game on my setup, do some work too but game quiet a lot.

So heres my 3 questions:

Is it realy that bad?

Does it apply just for the 7900x or also the 7820x?

Does it apply to Kabylake-X?

Pretty sure you're talking about RYZEN as that has to go through infinity fabric.

you are not losing much in terms of gaming

gaming is still IPC dependent and still lot less number of cores dependent

Well i have a 7700k right now, the motherboard ain't that good so i should change it anyways, and well the multitasking is not fluid at all, like on some games i can't alt tab without lagging the whole thing and having bad experience, its much better than an i5 sure.. but still not quiet good.

What got me considering that is the fact that i just so happen have a friend in intel, and i could get those new cpus half price, so 7900X for 500$ and 300$ for the 7820X + shipping and some tax, but still quiet cheap.

If im planning kabylake-X? nope, i'd like more cores, and if i already am buying X299 then atleast 8 cores.

question again is if its worse for gaming?

Lets say i can get 5Ghz 7820X chip, will it perform any worse than 5Ghz 7700k?

It would perform about the same, but don't buy 299x. It's underdeveloped and rushed. Buy something solid. When people tell you to get 7700k, they're telling it for a reason and you seem dead set on 299x so how can we help you if you will get 299x anyway?

Could wait for coffee lake too.. i just want more cores than 4, for the reasons stated above and we'll i'd get an AMD but i just can get intel for cheaper than an AMD cpu.

X299 aside Kaby Lake-X is not meant for gaming it will be either the same or worse than a i7 7700k, you're not paying premium for more gaming performance you're paying premium for more multi-tasking thus why more cores and threads, with a 7820x you'll be able to have more programs open at the same time, which is desirable for content creation when you have multiple demanding programs for a single project.

 

If you just open your game and have nothing else as main task just a few background applications like Discord then there will be wasting the x299 potential.

Well besides some video editing, the most i do is run a server and play at the same time, it could benefit i guess, but then again, should i maybe wait for coffeelake? they say "30% improvement" but then again.. they just say, doesn't mean it will happen.

Wish i had a friend in AMD lel, this threadripper socket is sexy af.

It is either the Ryzen7 1700 or wait for the Coffee Lake yes, x299 is of terrible cost to benefice for you

Some games do that. Some don't. Won't matter how many cores you throw at it.

How hard is that server getting hit? What is it doing? Sounds like you don't really need the extra cores unless you do more video editing than you are making it out to be.

ryzen has terrible ccx latency but the core latency for cores in the same ccx is fine and x299 has a higher core latency than ryzen apparently

intel, dont do a ryzen on x299. your only saving grace for it is for it to be stable and tiny bit higher IPC.

It's a wait and wee right now to see if x299 will get the gains ryzen got with bios updates. The 7820x should be a lot faster than the R7's.

kaby lake x = kaby lake ipc which is higher than ryzen ipc.

skylake x? = skylake IPC which is the SAME as kaby lake, which is higher than ryzen's ipc.

If you can get it cheaper go ahead. But you'll have hard time cooling any of the chips as they're like a furnace.

I know it's not much faster... That's why I said what I said earlier and the R7's are the only other 8c/16t chip from AMD that you can square the 7820x to which it's not much better than even though the gap between the two should be more than it is given the better ipc of skylake-x

How hard is that server getting hit? What is it doing? Sounds like you don't really need the extra cores unless you do more video editing than you are making it out to be.

Just mostly playing around with the editing, learning, nothing proffesional.

About the server, its a minecraft server with 5-8 players, also nothing too big.

Do you think coffee lake is more promising? 

Temps aren't a problem, its getting custom water cooled what so ever.

If you can get the 7820X for half the price, I'd jump all over it!!! $300 for the 7820X is FAR better than anything AMD can currently offer. The X370 chipset is terribly weak compared to X299. You'd be pretty dumb not to jump on that imo.

Skylake-X has a "mesh design" that is in many ways similar to the Infinity Fabric. I think they did it to overcome the scalability issues of the previous generation's high core count CPUs, where some cores had direct access to memory and I/O, and the others had to go "through them". As with the infinity fabric, that comes with some latency costs (or I should say with one form of latency, to prevent another form of latency :P).

Well yeah enthusiastic system is very.. calling, but then again, with intel claims, coffee lake should perform better as for games and such?

Don't expect a ~ 30% jump in performance. That might apply to very specific use cases. Companies inflate performance numbers all the time, but people never see the asterisk at the bottom.
