Intel's roadmap has 6c parts on the Z370 platform.  It'll be announced in the Aug-Sep range.  Release date is "this year".  Mainstream 300 platform is late Q1'2018 or Q2 for some parts. Coffeelake has run into a lot of problems because Cannonlake got messed up.

L3$ on Broadwell/Haswell was inclusive, L2 per core now is bigger and L3 is exclusive (that's why it was cut down in size - you won't have L2 copies residing in L3), but L2 is individual per core, so if you have multiple threads using same data there is interesting tradeoff to observe, it's a design choice Intel made -  it benefits some use cases (like highly threaded, data independent workloads) while hurting other workloads (like gaming when threads jump from one core to another)

Nah do like me, forget Coffee Lake, 14nm is the past already, the true deal is at those sweet sweet 10nm Canon Lake mainstream 6c/12t i7... I'm certain those will be 5ghz chips with actual superior IPC to the current line up, True Gaming King CPU, the i7 7740k already looks lame... just gotta wait till next year.

Wasn't aware they had made changes other than size to L2 and L3. Good to know, and kind of bad at the same time.

I would if I could actually get my 6700K over 4.4GHz. Its terrible knowing I have possibly one of the worst 6700Ks. I honestly don't even know why I care all that much. I spend most of my time in masm and VS, fucking around instead of playing games nowadays...

Tried until 1.35V. Would not stay stable. RAM timings were even a little loose for my tastes, still no-go.

registers are registers, L1, L2, L3 are cache, all caches cache data from system memory, you execute instructions on registers and you fetch data/instructions from cache

9700K does sound a lot cooler than 8700K.

Icelake is the 10 nm shrink + architecture change.  Cannonlake is the actual die-shrink generation, but we aren't seeing that in anything but some mobile devices.

I'd do it, but then I'd have to do ASM on my phone. It's doable, but I'd really rather not.

Because why not? Many people have RMAed their CPUs (for no particular reason) and got golden CPUs as replacements! :D(Especially with Haswell-E)
