I am going with EVGA Dark, looks like a great motherboard.

This was my favorite by far but the extended ATX form factor would force me to remove my cable shroud in my S340 Elite. :(

I've been eyeing the Gigabyte AORUS Gaming 3. What are the reasons to jump to the ASUS Prime? RGB is a non-issue for me, I have case lighting w/ NZXT Hue+.

ASUS generally has a better BIOS.

I've never really watched a processor lineup launch this closely so I am clueless as far as timeframe on these things. When might I expect the 2nd round of testing?

Since Intel sent out very few testing kits, it's going to be at least 2-5 days after the official launch.  BIOS updates will roll out over the next 2ish months anyway to improve details. So by the end of next week, there should be enough testing to come to a buying decision.

Wonder if the 7800X would even be worth the purchase with possible 6 core Coffee Lake being several months away.

This is what I'm currently debating, too. Then again, it's not like I really need to build a new PC given I only just put my new one together but stiiiillll. The new PC build itch is real. It must be scratched!

I'm personally content with my build, but a close friend of mine has been debating this for a while now.

Coffee Lake will be announced in the Aug-Sep time frame.  This was on Intel's own product roadmap from a May presentation.  So it is coming "this year". So I'd highly recommend waiting a few weeks, as the 6c/12t Coffee Lake (8750k?) should be the best gaming CPU on the market when it drops.  Unless it clocks badly for some reason.

same difference and none of those chips stop at their TDP...

TDP isn't power draw. It's a measure of the typical amount of heat the chip would produce under load.

I think Coffee Lake will be a great architecture and it's at 14nm++ iirc.
