Used 7970 vs 580

I've been browsing the used market and came across a used HD 7970 and GTX 580 and was wondering a couple of things:

 

Which one is the better buy? They're both listed for the same price, that price being whatever I ask for. Which is another question I have, what are these cards worth right now and what price should I suggest?

Should I even buy a used GPU?

I currently have an HD7790.

7970 is more comparable to GTX 680, it is quite a bit better than the GTX 580.

I'd go with the 7970, the 1080p performance on it is enough to make you very happy.

Why the GTX 580 then? A HD 7970 outperforms it.

The 7970 performs between the GTX 770 and 780, it's definitely more powerful than the 580 and 680.

He's listing it in an entire system with an i7 920 for $400. I was going to ask if he's willing to just sell the GPU to me.

Alright, if he sells it to you, around $100 is a good price, but people are still selling them on eBay for $150 somehow. $120 would still be an okay deal.
