I know and dislike both.

Linkin Park never really spoke to me. Eventhough I'm supposidly the right age to have enjoyed them, I probably wasn't angsty enough to identify with their music.

I also have no idea what the hell happended on their new album. Linkin Park went from being an angsty nü-metal lite band to being discount Avicii.

Hollywood Undead is rap-rock that came out 10 years too late. And their lyrics are just so vapid. I usually put Hollywood Undead and Atilla into the same bucket: Frat boy-rock.

HU also has some deeper songs as well or ones that arent just partying and b°tches.

When I started listening to Linkin PArk I barrely understood a word english and really liked the sound so i kept listening to them since the music just sounds good and some lyrics are also interesting imo

I dont get why the date of release matters, it comes out when it comes out. I also dont like all of their songs (HU), but some are really good overall and some chori are also on point especially in Deuce's parts in the older songs and Danny's chori as well

It's important to distinguish between tackling a deep subject and having deep lyrics.

If we didn't do that, then The Christmas Shoes would be a deep song.

You can deal with a deep, important or relevant topic but still have lyrics that are as shallow as a kiddy pool.

I wasn't arguing that the release date matters per se.

What I was refering to is that people tend to look more favorably at the music that was released during their adolescents.

Not only will the music be viewed through rose-coloured nostalgia glasses, it will also be the music that helped informed their later development in music taste.

I'm not saying that you can't enjoy music that came out before you were born or came out later in your life, but your teen years tend to be the most important in this regard.

Sure, recommend away.

However, I have heard most of Hollywood Undead's discography. I don't make my assumptions nor draw my conclusions on nothing.

When I determine whether or not I like something I'll always give it a chance to prove itself.

In the case of Hollywookd Undead that means that I've listened to their first three albums, and I wasn't impressed.

I have listened to both of their music in the past, but both are not my thing. (might still occasionally listen to both when feeling like it. For example I kinda like Linkin Park's 'Breaking the Habit')

It's probably best listened to if you're 15 or 16 because you'll feel a lot of the things the album goes on about.

I think you hit the nail on the head with this. Linkin Park was my 'edgy phase' in my mid teens and I feel like it has been for many people.

I was a fan of linkin park ages ago before they went all reggae and new-alt rock shit.

I also grew out of rock and metal as a whole after middleschool. Now its all either EDM when I'm driving or gaming, or classical when I'm working or studying.

I get that, there's shit music in every genre. I never understood though how people can't listen to music and focus/study at the same time lol, I've never had an issue with it though. Especially over these last handful of years because I'm quite literally always listening to something, whether its a podcast or music, but that's because I use it to drown out the tinnitus I have. If I tried to sit down and study now without anything playing at all I'd start to go insane.

Believe

This is a prime example of poor story writting. The song's concept is so vague that the verses and the chorus don't even sound like they're about the same topic.

It's litterally a song that mentiones enough buzzwords to have the listener read themselves into the story, all while masking that it's actually about nothing.

22 hours ago, Tiwaz said:

Bullet

This goes to my point that deep topics ≠ deep lyrics.

The song pretty much just lists ways and reasons a person might kille themselves. It doesn't go into any reflection on the topic of suicide or mental health.

All it comes off as is an edge-lord anthem similar to Last Resort by Papa Roach (God, I hate that song).

22 hours ago, Tiwaz said:

I'll be there

Again, it's incredibly vague. I've listened to this 3 times now and I still don't know what it's about.

Other than that it's just a bit bland. Not really anything I would mind hearing, but definetly not something I would activly seek out.

22 hours ago, Tiwaz said:

Black DAhlia

This is actually not bad. I comes off a bit like a subpar Eminem, but that is no mean feat, I guess.

Why the song is named after the Black Dahlia Murder baffles me, though.

22 hours ago, Tiwaz said:

The Loss

As opposed to Bullet this song actually does some reflection. Not a lot, but some reflection is something.

Sound wise comes off as discount ICP, which is never a good thing, though.

22 hours ago, Tiwaz said:

Lion

This song is a fucking mess. The chorus sounds like ti's trying to tell two stories, alternating every other line.

The verses can't seem to agree what story they're telling. Again, it's way too vague to tell anything of meaning.

The instrumental isn't bad, but it still sounds like something that would have fit in better with the nü metal scene 15 years ago.

22 hours ago, Tiwaz said:

this love this hate

Something is beginning to annoy me here. The faux poeticism.

Every song up 'till now has been filled with unnecessarily complicated words, stretched rhyming and buzzwords without substance.

I only get to this now, because this song is simply too bland to say anything else about.

22 hours ago, Tiwaz said:

surface Air

This song reminds me more of Fall Out Boy than anything else. The use of meaningless, buzzword lyrics are taking right out of the Fall Out Boy textbook.

The ocean might seem vast, but it's only 5cm deep.

22 hours ago, Tiwaz said:

City

This is just ICP/edge-lords again. Yelling doesn't make what you say provoking or aggressive. Without substance it just make you look like a maniac.

Row, Row Your Boat won't be threating or menacing just becuase you yell it.

22 hours ago, Tiwaz said:

No5

I guess it's an OK party song. I have always hated party songs with lyrics. Who are they to tell me how to party?

But I see no reason why you would go to Hollywood Undead for party anthems.

One foul is that the beat is pretty much impossible to dance to. Don't demand dancing of me if I can't dance to your song.

22 hours ago, Tiwaz said:

Another way out

I'm sensing a pattern. This is also way too vague for anything of substance to take place.

I can't detemin whether this is about someone murdering someone else or someone struggling with suicidal thoughts.

Both themes are handled with about as much care as an old person in a discount nursing home though.

It's not menacing enough to be about killing and it's not somber enough to convey suicidal thoughts properly.

22 hours ago, Tiwaz said:

Gangsta Sexy

A generic song about fucking, blazing it and going to the club.

But they convey their fantasy about as well a 5 year old child.

I at no point of the song believed these men knew how to score anything more lively than a tree and they sound like they have about as much street cred as Vanilla Ice.

If you're going to make a sex song atleast make it sexy and believable.

22 hours ago, Tiwaz said:

Pimpin'

This song just doesn't work. It's a party song by theme but it's atleast 50bpm too slow to dance to.

It's also as unbelievable as Gangsta Sexy. I simply don't believe the story I'm being told here, and I'm definetly not capable of imagining myself in the story.

22 hours ago, Tiwaz said:

Bottle and a gun

This is again completly unbelievable. It sounds like a guy whose only sexual experience is pornography.

It's not sensual, it's not sexy and it's just plain uncomfortable to listen to.

The lyrics are also disjoited as all hell.

The Wu-Tang reference is also just plain desperate. It's come off as the McLovin' character in Superbad.

I think I give up now. All of these songs begin to blend together now.

If there are any of the remaing songs your simply dying to share then say so. If not I'm done.

However, I can say that I've already listened to most of them, considering they were on the albums I've heard.

Obviously, they haven't left a lasting impression.

Sad that you dont like the songs, but dont you at rleast think that they sound good?

In terms of their sound as a concept, I don't think I'm one to comment.

I disliked the whole rap rock thing when it was first introduced in the late '90s.

It simply wasn't for me.

As for their overall sound, I find it very plain.

Most of the songs end up sounding the same since Deuce is doing most (if not all) the chorus' and then having short verses in between said chorus'.

Even the rest of group end up sounding like the same person, since most of them try this weird shout rapping or slow emotive rapping. It ends up soundling like try-hard horrorcore or discount LL Cool J.

While they do have some intersting instrumentals from time to time, most of their instrumentals sounds like the same overproduced synthetic dribble.

When couple with the vagueness and overall blandness of their lyrics, it all ends up sounding like a processed functional product rather than a piece of art.

While I'm certainly negative here (I really find it hard to like most of this), I think it is important to note that I'm not trying to convince you to stop listning to Hollywood Undead (or Linkin Park for that matter).

You would more than likely also really dislike the music I listen to on a regular basis.
