yeah seems ridiculous that they are based in Ontario. Though tax would be lower since the product itself is $1.2

It's how they chose to list it. They're still getting probably $9.99 for the item, the rest goes to shipping. The $1.20 is more of a misrepresentation of what you're actually paying.

HST does not calculate towards shipping. Just add a random order in Newegg Canada then enter random Canadian Postal Code and you will see

Its either a mistake on their listing or they are doing what they call misrepresentation by allocating the real cost to the shipping tag. It's often used on items by sketchy sellers so don't bother with that one.

Yeah, some sellers chose to put low price to attract customers then put a huge shipping cost to cover it.

Also shipping costs usually aren't refunded in case of issues.  Very common on ebay and other places.  That way they still make money when people return their items or file a claim

Not always true. I got the shipping refunded to me on my last claim.

I think eBay has restrictions against bogus shipping prices now as well.
