Is it possible to use my laptop as another monitor?

I have a laptop that i dont use much and it has an hdmi port on it, is it possible to use it as another monitor for my pc?

Just get synergy, closest you are going to get without ripping your laptop apart.

lol, I've had similar question years ago

well with hardware technically it's not possible, because HDMI port is Output only, not input.

 

but I think it's possible via software

Also there are other similar solution software based. But I never try it, maybe I will someday.

btw this also works with tablet and phones

you can either use some bodge-y software solution (that'll probably not work very well), or you can take the display out the laptop and hook it up to some chinese display controller that plugs into your pc.

unless you're either:

- willing to use software, which incurs a fucktonne of input lag

- willing to tear down the machine

you're not going to use it as a monitor. 

 

Blebek put a good suggestion above, but if you want to go the 'tear it down' route - you'll need to take the panel out, see the model number, then order a cheap ($30) control board off eBay. The control board allows HDMI and other inputs in, so it's quite a nice route to go.
