$300 8 Core CPU and Motherboard

I'm doing some research for my fiancee. he has $300 to spend and wants a 8 core CPU and wants to run win7. so I figure a AM3+ Socket would fit the bill best. he wants to stay a major brand like Asus MSI Gigabyte etc... he docent plan to overclock but wants the cores for bit mining with gaming on the side. dose anyone have some recommendations???

Thanks in Advance:

Alice P.

$300 for the whole PC or CPU only? Please state clearly.
Avoid AM3+ Socket nowadays.

bit mining does not make sense on consumer hardware, the electricity it takes to run the computer would cost much more than he would ever make, no one has mined on cpus for years

Well I would suggest a used Xeon, but the server motherboards that support Xeons don't have a lot of the features found in consumer motherboards and aren't manufactured by the aforementioned brands, so yeah AM3+ with an FX cpu is probably the cheapest you can get. I would strongly recommend against it in most cases since the performance on FX cpu's is pitiful and the architecture is outdated, but on this tight of a budget, it seems like your only option.

Exactly, OP can just go with a R5 1500 (or an R3), and use the rest to buy 4x (insert graphics card here {RX580 etc., should be a high price per performance card.} ).

agreed, FX sucks, especially the mobos, you need a 990fx mobo to run them properly and those are way too outdated and expensive for what you're getting

I tried telling him risen is better but the windows 10 experience he just hates

but what is a good ryzen build option I can tell him but he will need ddr4 then too all for 300 total.

its the 300 thats limiting his options. I found a cheap Asus M5A78L-M/USB3

r5 1600 would go over his small $300 budget and it's only a 6 core

have you tried the used market? seems to me that a lot of people would be upgrading from old intel/AMD systems with ryzen out.

GPU drivers giving you a hard time? Try this! (DDU)

he prefer new he said. I asked a lot questions of him before posting so if he wanted some specific features. like having extra ddr3 laying around and a old and gpu he's going to put in this rig.
