Can someone roast a Mac?

Due to the recent publicized ransomware attacks on Windows computers, my parents now think that Macs are completely invulnerable to viruses and any type of malware. I'm asking for anyone willing to provide links to articles or anything containing evidence that Macs are indeed not invulnerable (because I know they're not I'm not stupid I just don't really have the time to look for any right now) or even just roast Macs and Apple in general, just for the hell of it.

Sure they can still get malware but since it's running UNIX it's easier to see foreign processes that aren't suppose to be running. Also they aren't at widely used as windows so really they are better in terms of security. Not immune but definitely better.

Tell them the 12 inch Macbook is thermally designed and limited due to its poor thermal dissipation to half of its clockspeed, essentially halving the performance an already weak laptop.

Yeah, Macs aren't invulnerable, but they have a much smaller, and thus less profitable to rob, user base. Also, they use a totally different architecture from PCs so they are harder to develop malware for. Windows malware is so well established you can buy a kit to make your own payload. Like the other guys said, if you want to be invulnerable, disconnect from the internet, or install a Linux distro. Or don't have a computer and just use an old Nokia. 

 

Also, not clicking on crap and running a good antivirus certainly helps.

macs dont get as many viruses because they arent targets for them.

businesses dont use them, and with 8% marketshare for desktop, its simply not worth the effort that it would take to write a virus for them.

however

Flashback, Blackhole RAT, MAC defender, Revir-B, HellRTS, MACSweeper, and many more viruses have been on mac.

Macs are still vulnerable. Tell your parents to get Linux instead. Free, and virtually immune to the dangers of the Web. 

 

The last part isn't due to any innate security or lack of a giant target, rather, due to the fact that technical ineptitude may prevent access to the Internet in the first place.

Only around 10% of computers that access the internet are Macs or Macbooks.  That's why they dont' get as many viruses; the creators aren't targeting them because they'd rather attack the majority to cause the most damage.  They aren't safer, and honestly, I'd rather write viruses for MacOS just because the user base is so ignorant.  I mean, who would you rather spend your time attacking, the guy using Windows who knows a lot about computers or that liberal college kid you see at a coffee shop every day watching John Oliver on his Macbook who couldn't tell you what a processor is?
