Posted May 2, 2017 i was told thermal paste can stay good for about 3 years
Posted May 2, 2017 Author It's completely determined by what thermal paste you use, how much you applied, what CPU you have, how hot your CPU averages and how often the PC is on. I can make thermal paste last 15+ years by applying it but never using the computer and vacuum sealing a storage container for it.
 Posted May 11, 2017 If i wasn't always upgrading 5 year old CPUs, I would probably wait two years. With the exception of one PC, I have had the PC apart anyway, so the TIM got replaced. Posted May 11, 2017 I don't go out of my way to replace thermal material on a regular schedule, but if I'm opening my PC up for some reason and feel up to wrestling around with my H80i, I may take the opportunity to re-apply. It probably works out to about once a year. I'm sure it doesn't actually need to be replaced that often, but since I've still never even seen an empty tube of thermal compound it seems silly to conserve it. Posted May 11, 2017 I personally have never reapplied it, the only time I did was when I sold an Intel Core2Quad + motherboard + GTX 560ti I had, and the person had me build it up altogether on a brand new case, so obviously I reapplied the paste there, other than that I just use it indefinitely. Posted May 11, 2017 My suggestion: every now and then run your HWmonitor or any other software to detect your CPU temps. If you see high temps, change your TIM. Otherwise I don't see any reason to change it. But in general, I see the need to replace TIM every 2 years.
