Should I pick Amd Fx-9590 or Intel i5 6500 for gaming. I am deciding between the two because of the price difference and I don't know which would be better.

Use the stock cooler. 

 

If your just gaming get a pentium and a faster gpu. Or look at ryzen.

Well, Ryzen benefits a lot from memory speeds -- although buying an overclocked kit doesn't guarantee anything. It's actually a Samsung B-die kit that you want for Ryzen. (And I know his build wasn't Ryzen based), but faster memory does help.

I know its decent, but I didn't think it was enough (the 1400 has the worst of the coolers) to push the 1400 above like 3.6ghz without getting loud.

Well, Ryzen benefits a lot from memory speeds -- although buying an overclocked kit doesn't guarantee anything. It's actually a Samsung B-die kit that you want for Ryzen. (And I know his build wasn't Ryzen based), but faster memory does help.

yea, I could make an argument saying every expensive component helps, but I obviously can't afford all of them.

Then again with this chip it isn't like overclocking would add all that much performance, the more important which is high frequency ram already got covered,  the 3000mhz kit running on 2933mhz will be sweet already... I wouldn't lose my sleep over overclocking the 1400... but that is me personally.

I want it under $500 so I am trying to bring the price down. What RAM do you recommend for 16gb that is not Corsair Vengeance Lpx because that is expensive.

$130 vs. $90 isn't going to be the problem there. But considering the context of his post, $500 may have been a typo.

4ghz vs. 3.6ghz is a pretty big difference when the CPU can already limit fps in some games. And buying overclocked memory doesn't gurantee anything -- the best thing is to get a samsung b-die kit.

ok wouldn't get a 9590, simply because its a volcano, waiting to blow, 8350 an OC if you are going AMD FX, or get a little Ryzen tbh, a i5 is a good coice as well, but it depends on budget and the games you play,

The stock cooler is fine and get a cheaper b250 motherboard and put the money you saved toward an RX470/570, and a better psu.
