According to EVGA none of their custom cards work with a reference PCB.

That's ridiculous, when its the drivers in charge of handling SLI...with all GTX 1080 running from the same drivers with none of the vendor specific BS that was around for the time of the Voodoo2 (which SLI just fine cross-vendor if you use unofficial drivers that ignore the vendor).

Just passing on what they said, and my experiance backs them up. My Hybrid is flawless. When in SLI with another reference card, flawless. Add a Classified and my rig shit the bed.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

Same thing happened when I tried a 290 and 390 in crossfire, both running the same drivers. You're making two cards into one, they might not be on the same PCB but they might as well be. The closer they are to each other the better the results.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

I'd imagine they'd at least both have to be reference across the board. I wouldn't try and pair my SOC edition 970 with reference...I've not been looking at this stuff for a while but to be honest I'm surprised anyone answered "yes" to this thread...maybe it's just that the understanding around this stuff has changed.
