Why I won't tell my parents about Christmas.

miyabwah

Going into a thread full of young teenagers like this and telling them why you dislike Christmas is like going to a kindergarten and telling people that Santa isn't real. Don't ruin the fun for other people just because you don't like it. It is yet again a very egoistic thing to do.

So if someone states his opinion everyone should do just like him, right? But let's actually say I go to a kindergarten and say Santa isn't real. Will the kids belive me?No,they will investigate and will think what they'll guess is true.

You're telling him to not share his opinion,or to simply change his opinion to fit the others', which is completely wrong. In fact, that's exactly what he should do.

Sharing opinions, feelings, experiences, etc is one of people's characteristics. It's what makes us different, along with asking questions and stuff like that. It's called COMMUNICATION.You get to learn how other persons view the world, and if you're not blind, you will learn something from it.

Person A : "I like Christmas."

Person B :"I don't like Christmas"

What A is basically saying is that he is like Christmas, and B is saying he's not like Christmas.(do I have to explain why?)

What I mean is that you can't criticize someone for what he/she is.

You can't change other people(directly), but you can change yourself.

To sum this up,stop being blind.

If someone doesn't think the way you think then let him be himself.

and Christmas certainly has a meaning today (the buy loads of crap meaning) and my opinions on the entire ordeal.

That's not what you said earlier:

Just so you know...Christmas has no meaning,

Same goes with valentines day, mothers day, fathers day and all that rubbish those are corporate made holidays designed to make you spend.

I'm free to my own opinions you know, you seem to have a real issue with it for some reason.

Yes they are designed to make you spend money but I don't see the harm in that. Of course you are entitled to your own opinion, I was just saying that your opinion is mostly based on egoism and that it is immature. Someone made a thread about what he wants for Christmas and you come in saying that Christmas has no meaning and people just buy "useless shit they don't need and are not thankful for". Again, it's as if a grown man went to a kindergarten and told everyone that Santa isn't real. Just imagine what a colossal douche that person would look like.

Umm...kay?

Again, don't see that as a downside to Christmas.

He's egocentric and immature for not enjoying being given gifts? That's a bit of a cop.

Next your going to tell me I'm self centred for not celebrating birthdays and Christmas! :-P

It depends on why you don't celebrate Christmas. If you're just trying to be edgy and "fight the system", and is then rude when your parents gets you something anyway then yes you are egoistic. Of course there are valid reasons as to why you might not celebrate certain holidays but I don't think any valid reason has been given in this thread.

Because religion,as it's being told today and how it has been told for pretty much forever,is very wrong.Jesus was an amazing man,he only told us good things and everyone should learn from him.He broke all the rules at that time, all the rules people said "were given by God",so did he actually do wrong things? No.He could do anything, because those rules didn't exist. The only true rule is to love other people.

Religion has this idea of "sin", which is wrong.Religion told us to love people,to not kill,to not steal, but,in fact, they've killed millions.Galileo Galilei said the Earth was round, and he was killed for that, for committing something which was considered a sin at that time.I know people who teach life lessons. One day I was with a person like that, when he got called just before he wanted to have his lessons. It was the episcopy, and they told him to stop or they would kill all his loved ones.Religion has killed millions, but they teach us to not kill and to forgive.Don't you think this is wrong?

Religion also tells us we're born in sin.How does this make you feel? Not good at all.The idea of you being sinful, nothing, etc. is what you're being told, ever since you are born. However, Jesus tells us to "Act like kids as they're closest to God".Doesn't this sound suspicious too?

When you die you come back to dirt, the same thing you were born from.Oh really?Another place  where religion fails.I'm myself,I'm a soul.I own my body and everything that's mine. When I die I simply don't use my body anymore and I go somewhere else. Our body goes back to earth, not your soul, not you.See the difference?

If you watch porn, you'll be sinful and you'll go to hell.Really?Jesus told us to forgive other people,so would you think God doesn't forgive anything?Do you think he is a strict, old and sad man? No.If he were sad then what would be the point in creating this beautiful, colourfull world?

In conclusion, religion was made as a way for the people high up there, the people who rule everything, to use the sheep in their benefit. The only thing we should do is to love each other. We haven't evolved in the last time,in fact we've become more dependent on the systems these people have created. If someone realized all of these things and he didn't want to be a sheep, then let him build his foundation for his castle. He's smart enough to not listen to the sheep,so why even bother?

The first build is so stupid... Drop the 4770k among other things and get a better video card.

I personally don't enjoy 9-string guitars, but that doesn't change the fact that they look awesome as hell!

<rambling about Christianity>

OK, explain to me how it is bad that parents buy presents for their children...

I have no idea why you're bringing up Christianity, at all. I am an atheist and so is everyone in my family, yet we celebrate Christmas. Christmas has next to nothing to do with Christianity. Your post is just inane rambling.

I'm about that age (just turned 13 on the 9th), and I've been trying to save up for a gaming rig too. I managed to convince my dad to pay me minimum wage for doing jobs around the house(cleaning, shoveling snow, fixing grandma's PC, etc.). In about two months I earned $300 dollars. Because minimum wage is so low ($7 an hour) he agreed that he might double my money (some might say that is a lot, but my family makes HUGE messes, and shoveling snow at my house isn't easy. My driveway is big, and the snow is always HEAVY. I'm not the strongest either) . That is $600 dollars in two months. Getting money is easy if you know how to do it. You might not be able to get your father to double your pay, but you could still get a bit of money. Good luck!

Waaaaat? Dude when I was 13 my parents paid me $3 a hour to help build their house. That was hard work I learned a lot because my Dad is a contractor but lucky :P, keep in mind this was 3 years ago.

Who said it's bad?

You did. You said the downside (aka, a bad aspect of something) of Christmas is that parents use it as an excuse to buy presents to their kids. I don't see how that's bad.

It's fine to buy presents.I'm saying that some parents only buy presents to their kids on big holidays and on their birthdays, when prices are usually pumped up.A parent who truly loves his child would get him something anytime,he wouldn't have to wait for a special occasion.

Christmas is, most of the time, a good thing because you spend time with your loved ones.If it's all about presents, then you know...

Just so you know...Christmas has no meaning, Newton was born on the afford mentioned holiday.

Jesus (if he was real) was born in the spring* not the winter, his birthday was moved for "christmas" which is supposed to celebrate the winter solstice just coz.

It was then later adopted and turned into buy your kids useless shit they don't need and are not thankful for.

Christmas as its known today, has as little meaning as valentines day.

I stopped getting presents when I was 14, my choice mind you. My parents still insist on getting something, which usually just turns into like £50-100 they force down my throat.....parents pshh

How old are you?

Do chores

Get a paper route

Do chores for neightbours etc

Lots of things you can do to get money.

Not trying to turn this into a religious topic but Christmas has nothing to do with the celebration of Jesus' birth just like Matsy said. Do some research if you guys don't believe me.

But it's being celebrated as it's Jesus' birth, unfortunately.

It's just a holiday based around family and sharing.

Don't be so greedy and expect & want so much for just a holiday.

You have to think that your parents have bills you know the ones that put food on the table, keep a roof over your head and let you even use a computer and internet.. the electricity.

I'm not asking for anything big here, that $1,000 list I posted, I didn't really want anyway because I don't need it.  Compared to other kids, I am poor. These kids are asking for iPhone 5S' and everything else expensive and popular. I'm not that greedy. I won't be getting anything this Christmas though, and I'm completely fine with that. I'm fine with what I have. Humans have a tendency to want more. Nothing we have is ever enough. It's always "more, more, more." I only have one working parent, so my wants are lowered than other kids my age. I understand that my parents do what they can, but it's just the wanting factor.
