Thank you for checking :)

Welcome.

I found Asus Zenbook Pro and Lenovo Ideapad Y700 from Amazon UK with 4K display, i7 6700HQ CPU and 960M GPU (which is an older GPU)

Be aware the EVOC High Performance Systems P650HS-G "4K QFHD PLS" display option is also PenTile (RG/BW) not-true-4K.

If you want true 4K in a Clevo P650HS, you pretty much have to buy from Eurocom and pick the Sharp IGZO panel. But it's glossy (con to some, pro to others) and doesn't support G-Sync. http://www.eurocom.com/ec/configure(2,396,0)ec

Sharper than 1080p still, just be aware it's not the "real deal".

also when talking about a post don't go and plug link for a laptop that they haven't even mentioned. i could easily put a link for a msi titan laptop and say you can play on a 4k panel with that but it is irrelevant to this conversation. if you want to talk about something that is related to the original post go ahead but you are talking nonsense that isn't related to what the original post was talking about. he asked if getting the 4k model of a specific model was worth it and i stand by my statement  that it really isn't.

I feel like you honestly believe X and have no proof to the contrary... if you think a 1070 cannot run a 1440p screen to ANY degree, you're exceedingly wrong. That's an irrefutable fact. But what do I know? Nick and Linus must be bullshitting everyone when they made the claim for the 1070 being a 1440p card. :P

That laptop that I'm referring to is the one op had asked about. You really need to read more carefully. Of course a 1070 can play games at 1440p and 4k if you are willing to change some settings but that isn't what is in the laptop op had originally asked about. The one they asked about has a 1050ti which has a hard time playing a lot of games at high settings at 1080p let alone 4k at Medium. I mean the vram would probably be a limiting factor as well. Bottom line is that getting a 4k screen for open was about content creation and nothing to do with gaming. If they had a made even a single reference to gaming then maybe but the fact is they didn't

do you really expect them to be able to play games in 4K on a laptop when most high end desktops can't?

YOU did not specify a particular laptop at all, you specified "a laptop", which means ANY laptop as far as I can tell. Also, you're wrong, most high-end desktops can, in fact, play at 4k without issue. But the community seems to think that if they can't do 60 FPS ALL THE TIME then it's incapable... which is complete bullshit.

that because having shitty fps is cancer. also it should have been obvious that i was talking about this in terms of the original post. i mean I'm posting on a thread asking about a specific laptop so its kinda obvious. my entire argument was built around op's use cases so for you to think i wasn't referring to a specific laptop is pretty strange.

It's called being specific in a post. Also being under 60 FPS is shitty is it? Because the general populace seems to think being under 100 FPS is also shitty. So what is it? Be specific.

being under 60 is awful. being at 60 is playable but having higher than that is preferable. also i assumed that when i am posting in a thread I'm talking about the thread. talking about thing unrelated to the thread is actually against user guidelines so this should be a given. and on that note I'm going to stop this conversation because you clearly don't want to talk about anything relevant to the original post anymore anyways.

Okay. The point of getting 4k panels for content creation on laptops is exclusively for better panel quality, higher color gamut etc. No 1080p panel is good for content creation on the 15in laptop market. Arguing how desktops work is completely irrelevant here.

Cool just making sure I'm not missing a hidden gem. What would be the next laptop up that I could consider? Just to see what I get if I spend a bit more?

Yes, everyone in this thread is missing a gem! The new Lenovo Yoga 720 15 inch. It has a 4k display which is NOT a PenTile Display. It is real 4k display. Also comes with a new 1050 GPU. So it can not run games in 4k as others have pointed out. However you can change the game settings to 1080p and it will still game really good. And you will still benefit for the way higher color gamut on the display while gaming. Even with the game settings at 1080p.

The laptop is only $1,499 in the US. It still has not been released in UK yet, but likely will be with in the next month. If you would like to view it on the US Lenovo website it then you can find it right here.

Laptop: Lenovo Yoga 720 15IKB - 15.6" 3840 x 2160 (4K) display

Phones: Nexus 6P 64GB Aluminium & Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Black

TV's: 2015 Sony XBR49X830C - 49" 3840 x 2160 (4K) Android TV & 2015 LG 43LF5900 43" 1080p WebOS Smart TV

  • 3 weeks later...

Lenovo Legion Y720 4K model is also real 4K. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834332757

FHD models are lame, IPS but only 45% NTSC color gamut. 72% NTSC color gamut IPS displays are the defacto standard for $1200+ GTX 1060 6GB laptops, and the Y720 FHD is behind on that end. Recommendation: Legion Y720 for 4K but not for FHD. MSI GT62VR or Clevo P650HP6/P650HS if you want FHD.
