Pros and cons of an ultra-wide curved monitor?

Skardiaz

Hello everyone,

I currently have a BenQ GW2765HT (27" 1440p 60Hz monitor) powered by a GTX 1070, and I'm considering swapping to a 144Hz ultra-wide curved monitor or just a regular 144Hz monitor.

Couple of questions:

  1. What are the pros and cons of getting one?
  2. Does the curvature actually help to immerse you in the game or is it just marketing BS?

Thanks in advance.

If you get a 144 hz monitor it's gonna be 2560x1080, so you'd actually be downgrading you know...

EDIT: In terms of resolution.

Make sure to quote me or tag me when responding to me, or I might not know you replied! Examples:

Buy whatever product is best for you, not what product is "best" for the market.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

Pros: More screen real estate --> kind of more immersion

Cons: really expensive, harder to drive because of the extra pixels.

It helps with viewing angles. No matter how good the panel is in terms of colour shift, it is always the best experience to look straight at the monitor rather than at an angle. Because ultra wide panels are so wide, you automatically look at the far left and far right at an angle thus worsening your gaming/overall PC experience. Slightly curving the monitor addresses that.

Also: the only 144Hz ultra wide is a 34" panel with 2560x1080 resolution. I personally think that resolution is way too low for that large of a screen and it will be even more noticeable for you since your coming from a 1440p panel.

You can do things like this:

Capture3.PNG

Cons: They are very expensive and you will need a decent graphics card
