Go to solution Solved by XCalinX,

It's a different card though. Full GP102 with 3840 cores. Its NOT the one that came out in August

https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/products/10series/titan-xp/?ncid=so-twi-tnxplh-11414

Is NVIDIA just trying to confuse us at this point?

Why is the God of Hyperdeath SO...DARN...CUTE!?

Also, if anyone has their mind corrupted by an anthropomorphic black latex bat, please let me know. I would like to join you.

It's pretty obvious why they refrained from naming the original Titan X Pascal the Titan Xp now isn't it. This refresh was premeditated as fuck.

This is why you only buy the x80 cards. 1180 will be faster and much cheaper than this and will be out later this year. TI and Titan cards have less time being the fastest card than the regular 80 cards it seems like also.

By that logic you shouldn't by the 1180 either since the 1170 is a better value and since the 1280 will be out in 1.5-2 years anyway. Hell, even the 1170 is a bad choice when you could just get an 1160 at an even better price/performance....

Anyone who buys a Ti/Titan does so knowing that they're buying at the worst price/performance bracket. But flagship products always carry that premium -- so if you want the best performance today (and/or what X performance and don't want to wait 1+ years), then a Ti/Titan are your only options.

IMO for high end gaming year after year it's best to get the x80 model card at release and use it until the next x80 or for two gens even. Unless you have a boatload of disposable income of course.

That's just how I view it though.

I'm so confused...    Can you explain what's going on?

I thought there was a Titan X in the 900 series Nvidia cards, then they released a 10 series Titan X.

But now they did what exactly?

15 hours ago, Princess Cadence said:

Touché mate.

We can't call that a new card, it is an identical Titan X(P) which is now marginally faster than the 1080ti solely because nVidia felt they fucked up making the Titan X and 1080ti virtually the same where the 1080ti could surpass it if silicon allowed overclocking it to... This was an worse rebrand than the r9 290 - r9 390...

My only hobby is owning Titan cards, but damn this move makes me want to buy a Vega.

Why would you want Vega instead?  ?

So there is already a 10 series Titan X that may as well have been called Titan Xp but wasn't because Nvidia enjoyed confusing people.  Now they went and made a second 10 series Titan that they are actually calling a Titan Xp.

Is that correct?

The naming is silly, but anyone who's annoyed that Nvidia released a full GP102 Titan should look back to Kepler, this isn't exactly surprising.

I just mean some people might've wanted this gen's Titan and bought the one that had been released.  Then only to find out now that there's a better (not sure how much better) Titan that makes spending as much as they did just a bit less worth it,

I'm not familiar with Kepler or what you're referring to sorry...

If you'd care to explain that would be appreciated.  Otherwise don't worry about it.

I'd expect the Titan Xp to be about 10% faster than the original Pascal Titan.

Nvidia launched the Kepler Titan (cut down gk110), then a few months later released the 780 (with titan-like performance). Then they released a 780ti (full gk110) and then a few more months later a Titan black (full gk110). So historically, there was one generation of Titans with only one Titan and it was a full gm200 core (maxwell) and one generation where we had two Titans -- the first a cut down core and the second a fully enabled core. So using history as the basis for Pascal then there was technically a 50% chance we would have seen a more powerful Titan, but I'd argue Kepler is more relevant since it was the generation under the same circumstances, thereby making it more like than just 50%.
