Processor choosement

The question that you have to ask yourself is: Do I need more cores?

  • If your answer is yes, get the 1700, it's a no brainer
  • If your answer is no, get the 7700K
  • If your answer is maybe, get the 5820K

More future-proof so, im going for 1700

Still, 1700 or 1700X. I can afford it, but what is the difference apart from TDP?

Is it just a higher clocked 1700?

If you want to say something, say it...

All 3 are the same just different factory clocks. The 65W tdp is false-ish that is at stock as soon as you oc it is no longer valid. The 1700 is best price/performance and can definitely be clocked @ 1700X freq. The 1800X can in some not all cases be pushed to 4.1GHz. My 1700 can do 4GHz. So its pretty much a factory OC that's why the 1800X barely has any oc headroom.

Don't forget CCXs though.... They cause issues with gaming performance, so don't expecexpect Ryzen to outperform a 5820K or a 7700K

You keep rehashing this. They don't really - trust me I've used both have you? I haven't seen any loss of frames. This may be apparent at 1080p 144Hz but in the majority of cases its not.

No. If you use Adobe, the 7700K would be within 1 minute of an overclocked 6950X....

I wont get 144 Hz, as these monitors are expensive AF, and my current monitor runs on VGA LOL, but it does pretty good

Try to think of a better argument than "he has an Intel Profile pic so he is an Intel Fanboy" and then we can have a debate.

1700, it is cheaper and it sometimes overclocks better

If you don't care about 144Hz, even a G4560 would be enough :P

Wait for Ryzen 5 TBH, it is cheaper, so you will be able to get a better GPU. (Which will help in rendering if you use CUDA/OpenGL and it will definitely help in games)

SO you suggest, Ryzen 1600X and a 1070 or something?

  1. For people who don't want to overclock
  2. Bragging rights
  3. XFR

Yep, you will get better performance in rendering (if you use GPU acceleration) and in gaming. At least this is what I would do

Extended frequency range. It is like GPU Boost, but for your CPU ;)

1 & 2 are correct though the 1700 has xfr too but 50MHz not 100. Though XFR is a gimmick and only boosts 1 core for short periods and is disabled by a manual overclock anyway.

Yes and no. Dropping to R5 is another option but if you did that I'd drop to the 1500X  and just oc to 1600X (stock) and above speeds (still a 6 core, same reasoning as the R7s). Then as you said further invest in the gpu

I heard that the best chips were for 1800X and less good for 1700X

Is that true and is that the same for R5?
