Processor choosement

Though XFR is a gimmick and only boosts 1 core for short periods and is disabled by a manual overclock anyway.

It is? I think that it boosts the CPU even when it is overclocked...

Yes and no. Dropping to R5 is another option but if you did that I'd drop to the 1500X  and just oc to 1600X (stock) and above speeds (still a 6 core, same reasoning as the R7s).

But the 1500X is a 4C 8T CPU....

I heard that the best chips were for 1800X and less good for 1700X

Is that true and is that the same for R5?

All R7 CPUs can overclock to the same frequency, so it won't make a difference unless you are overclocking with LN2

When you say "best" I assume you are referring to material.

They all start out as the same chip then a given % are taken as 1800Xs and tested, same for 1700Xs and 1700s. This is called binning. It is to ensure the 1800X will reach the advertised speeds. But because all these are essentially the same with different factory clocks the 1700 on average ocs much further than the 1800X (by further I mean % not total freq) e.g. 1700s max out around 4GHz unless you get really lucky, on average the 1800X can do 4.1GHz. In this line up it is the 1700X that is the most out of place. The 1700 is for tinkering and the 1800X is for out of the box plug and play (e.g. business use)

Ok then i'll get a 1700 because I need some WS power, and I can always buy another RX480

It kind of is. But it doesn't perform as well in games and it doesn't overclock as well. Get a 1600X or a 1600, both are better and not much more expensive...

That's not worth the double of the price of a 1800X

Whatever you think is best for you bud! I would recommend a 1600(X) and a 1070, but if you think that the 1700 is better for your needs, go for it.

Yes that is the general consensus among consumers but the 1800X does have its place in business where they wouldnt bother oc'ing or for a fit and forget user

Yup, but the business people also have Quadro's and shit. So they know a PC can cost a lot, and just order stuff

You can argue it either way. Not quite as good single card but your idea of crossfire RX480s and the 1700 sounds the better option imo. Especially as the 1700 has been shown to work well with AMD's DX12 drivers.

Ok, im going full AMD. Lets get that OCZ RADEON R7 SSD.

Ehh nope. WD Blue SSD is better and a lot cheaper, Get an NVMe for the same price as that "AMD" SSD

Lightworks is very single core intensive, in other words, it needs clock speed and IPC. A 7350K at 5GHz would outperform a 6950X in lightworks :P

Pinnacle studio has GPU acceleration, so you will need a good GPU. I think that the 1600 and GTX 1070 combo will be better for your needs.

Yes, but only up to a point...

Yes but his plan is not to remain single card. He plans to add a 2nd for crossfire.

If the editing software that you use can take advantage of multiple GPUs, then the 3x480s may be better
