Processor choosement

If the editing software that you use can take advantage of multiple GPUs, then the 3x480s may be better

The plan is 2way CF and i will render at night, so its not a problem if its a bit slower. Then you just need a silent case

It is, you won't get higher FPS in games, but you will get better rendering times.

I might get a quadro k4000 from my dad's business. Else i have to borrow it

EDIT: I think I'll have to borrow it, so i can use it when i need it, So if i need to render, I can get it

IMO, you should wait for Ryzen 5, to see how well it performs and then make a decision.

I think the R5 6-cores will do great

Seeing as all ryzen chips are the same with cores disabled. You can see simulated ryzen 5 performance from Linus and from Hardware unboxed. For example the 6 core is the 8 core with 2 cores disabled, the 4 is 4 cores disabled etc...

GPUS:

If you can wait for vega that's probably wise (I didn't mention because its a few months away and most people want to build at the time of posting)

500 series... Well we will have to wait and see but as its the same architecture it has been tipped that its just the 400 series + ~10% which isn't worth waiting for imo.

EDIT: I also think that just like the R7 is phenomenal value in the 8 core space, the R5 will be amazing value in the 6 core space. Truly exciting times and good to finally move out of the mainstream quad core rut that we have been stuck in due to lack of innovation/competition in recent years.

TBH, I think that Ryzen 6 cores are a better buy than the 8 cores :P

They do lack 2 cores, but they costs less than $250! Price/performance ratios will be off the charts with Ryzen 5!

The 1700 is £299 now so its ~£25 per core between the 6 and 8 core models. Pretty good value imo

The base clock of the 580 is the same as a heavily overclocked 480, so an overclocked 580 may be 15-20% better than a stock 480! ;)

If you have a g-sync monitor just get a 1080, they cost just $500 right now! I am going to get one myself (hopefully this week).

(Now I have to upgrade my 1080p 60Hz monitor xD)

Yes, but the closest CPU in terms of price is the i5-7600K. And if I had to choose between an i5 and a Ryzen CPU, I would get Ryzen. It has identical performance in games and performs much better in mutithreaded workloads. ;)

Yeah I could buy the 1080 right now or the 1080Ti in May. Leaning toward the ti tbh. 1080 isn't enough of an upgrade from my 1070. 1070 will go to my gf (the home of all hand me downs :p)

EDIT: due to g-sync monitor there is literally no point in waiting for vega for me, apart from maybe more competitive pricing

If you have a 1070, just get a second 1070 and call it a day :P Performance will be identical to a 1080 Ti!

Just 230+ the case and make sure to have a steel exterior, that'll keep her offxD

Ryzen 5 1600 is expected ~ £230, right now a 1700 is £299. So go for what appeals to you. Tbh I think the ~£70 is worth it but the entire ryzen series seems to be great value. Although not the 1600X, 1700X and 1800X imo as they can easily be replicated with 1600 and 1700 overclocks.

Main differences:

X370 supports crossfire/sli

X370 can change the BCLK to have a deeper level of tweaking.

Both can overclock.

Don't know about R5 1600(X) in Holland, but the 1700 is 350 EUR! That's a little expensive
