"Entry level" horror games

Acerpwns

I've been recently wanting to get into horror games, but since im a pussy i wanted to "start off slow"

I tried some older horror games like Silent Hill but tbh that is still kind of intense for me. Mainly looking to play phsychological horror games that focus on ambience instead of your typical silence-then-sudden-jumpscare experience.

Any suggestions? Preferably on PC, but if i can emulate it thats fine too

slender ? (original unity game) ?

then play the "actual" slender game on steam !

both good ! second one is a bit better tho, more diversity and gameplay

then, here's a good one. free too ! and lots of creepy backstory :

SCP Containment Breach.

might be a tad bit hard to run, but its a great game for the spookyness. + randomly generated  for endles fun !

Im currently playing RE:5 but im playing it in co-op, takes away the little horror there is but its much more entertaining. Nightmare House seems bareable, gonna try that out first.

Tbh, i found Slender to be extremely boring.

I couldnt bring myslef to play SCP in TF2 Slender Fortress servers, so i doubt i could play the stand alone game

The Penumbra series, and Amnesia: The Dark Descent

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

Ummm...  That gets pretty freaky for the first part of the game.  It's only about half to 2/3 through where it toned down for me.

I loved Scratches.  But I haven't played it in years.  I forget if it works on Windows 7 but I'm almost positive it won't work on W10.

Resident Evil on the Playstation. Great game and the voice acting is so bad it's funny :D

Did you manage to make progress and beat it?  I'd love to play RE 0-3 but those always were super confusing and hard...

FNAF 1 and 2 use atmosphere fairly well, provided you've got a good audio solution (decent pair of headphones being optimal). FNAF 3 and Sister Location aren't really that good, and FNAF 4 uses atmosphere well but the scares are a bit cheesy, expected, and not scary IMO.

There's also some good RPG Maker games: Ib, The Witches House, Ao Oni, Misao.

Then you can look into what versions of Corpse Party are out there. There are a few RPG Maker version I believe.

Come Bloody Angel

Break off your chains

And look what I've found in the dirt.

Pale battered body

Seems she was struggling

Something is wrong with this world.

Fierce Bloody Angel

The blood is on your hands

Why did you come to this world?

Everybody turns to dust.

Everybody turns to dust.

The blood is on your hands.

The blood is on your hands!

Pyo.

Well it is also a puzzle game :P  But, I don't recall it being one of those games where the path to the next objective was hidden, you just explore until it becomes obvious and then solve this and that when it comes up.

Competitive Overwatch. Nothing scares me more than getting an inexperienced Hanzo main on my team.

All jokes aside, the original Resident Evil felt very scary to me as a child, and they have the remastered version on Steam. Might be worth looking into if you can find it cheap enough. Playing it as Chris, on the higher difficulties gives you this sense of helplessness and unease as you must conserve ammo, and yet everything becomes extremely hard to kill.

I have not played many recent horror games, but I figured I'd at least recommend one of the grandfathers of the genre.

It does?    Maybe it was 7 I had issues with?    I just remember trying to install it and getting crashes of either the game or Windows.

I'll have to try it later.  Did you need to use any of the compatibility settings?

Perhaps I was just too lazy to try harder?  ?

Resident evil 4. It's a very good entry game I feel. If it's too scary then play 5, and then 4 afterwards. 4 seems to be scarier than five

I loved 4.  Scared the crap out of me first time I played it so much I got partway in and stopped playing for months before I went back and finished it.  lol   Two words: the chanting.   ?

GOG has the first Corpse Party.  It's also on 3DS in a remastered/redone version and the original PSP version is on PSN on Vita.  There's also a sequel that was released on Vita.

If you have steam I recommend searching "horror" and looking through the videos. Many games have multiple videos to see the game itself. It might be worth a search to look through dozens of games from 2015 to now.

say what you want, playing it on the dark face front to the monitor with a headset in the high difficulty this has more horror than resident evil 6 in my opinion due to first person and awesome soundtrack , also he said entry level and phsychological horror games that focus on ambience instead of your typical silence-then-sudden-jumpscare experience this is exactly how I would describe that entire chapter.

Also Half Life 2 is the stairway to heaven of PC Gaming, every one should play it at least once xD since OP said preference for PC gaming and does not mind being older title I literary can not see how this isn't an awesome pick.
