"Entry level" horror games

I've heard people more accustomed to the horror genre than I am claim Alien: Isolation isn't that scary. Personally, I was in a state of paralysis throughout most of it. But it's still an excellent game and probably easier to get along with than some more "hardcore" horror games. It was scary to me but I did love the experience, and I'm not normally into horror games.

 

It gets a lot of its tension from the AI which makes it more like a scary stealth game than a straight-up horror game once you figure out the mechanics. Being good at the stealth in Isolation gives you a lot of control over how scary it's going to be, in contrast to a lot of horror games where you're often just waiting for the next inevitable jump scare.
