Next year I will be going into an electric or computer engineering school, but I'm not sure which laptop to get. I need something that can run CAD programs well, and are easy to code on. Something that can game at 1080p also would be nice. Any ideas? Budget around 2000$ less.

that seems nice but is the GTX 1050 any good.

how would the new 7th gen blade be

The Razer Blade has an GTX 1060 but the Dell XPS comes with one too but is also more expensive. The GTX 1050 will run games just fine at 1080p at 60fps.

Oh, my bad the Dell XPS 15 only has a GTX 1050. I you want a notebook with an GTX 1060 in it then you should probably look towards Gaming notebooks instead.

You need to set your priorities. Whether you want a gaming laptop, or a laptop for school. Rarely can you have one that does both well. I say focus on school and get a laptop that works for that. Then get a decent gaming laptop/desktop when you're done.

Any suggestions. Something like the xps or the razer blade.

Don't get a Razer blade, they power throttle and thermal throttle, so you don't even close to the performance that you should get and their quality control is crap so it is very likely that you get a model that is broken from the start. The build quality of the blade is also crap because they use shitty parts.

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...

My main Headphones and IEMs:  K612 pro, HD 25 and Ultimate Ears Reference Monitor, HD 580 with HD 600 grills

DAC and AMP: RME ADI 2 DAC

Speakers: Genelec 8040, System Audio SA205

Receiver: Denon AVR-1612

Desktop: R7 1700, GTX 1080  RX 580 8GB and other stuff

form

Its not like the Razer Blade fits within ur budget in the first place.

Refurb xps15 is pretty much your only choice. Form factor wise.

Acer vx15, Lenovo y520, Clevo n850hk1 all fit that form factor requirement.

Otherwise you could get a nicely msi16l13 for 2k. It comes with a 6700k and a 1070 but is in the chassis of gt62vr. So bulky.

I'd also take a look at Dells Inspirion gaming laptop. I think it's about the same spec but much cheaper.

Check reviews on both though, I have a feeling you won't see much battery life out of them.

The XPS 13 with the i5 absolutely kills in the battery department.
