Hexa or Quad Core CPU.

Hello to all. I'm saving up for a main overhaul of my MOBO, CPU, RAM and HDD/SSD. I've already Picked a SSD and HDD so I'm good there. However, Im stuck on the fo weather I should get a 4 or 6 Core CPU [Intel of coarse]. What I do is 3D Modeling granted I'm still a bit of an Amateur and do mostly Vehicle Modeling and some scenery but I would like to move onto Animation, Rigging, More Detailed Scenery, Photo Realism and really expanding my current list of Capabilities. I'm in College have been accepted to a University which has a specialization coarse in Game Art BS. So which should I get or which would be fine. I was looking for someone who would sell a new or if I had to used i7 3930K. Yes I do game as well. But here's some examples. There's a few but I think this gives you an Idea.

latest rumors are here, if the gods are willing, 8c/16t for $499 for the best out of the box clock speeds

First off, if you created all the models you posted I'd say you have some talent.

Second, a hexa-core would probably be more suited for your needs as you are doing computations during your work that involves both the CPU and GPU. The GPU will take care of your graphics and how the 3D is displayed and the CPU will help you with your model rendering times and will in general give you more throughput.

Third, I would say just like everyone to wait a bit on Ryzen. Yeah, I have a 6800K and yes I love it, but since this is the a huge AMD possible turnaround I would wait.

Great models.  As a 3d modeler myself, I prefer Xeon processors with ECC memory.  My workstation has a Quadro card to handle all my renderings.  I have worked with i7 processors and got me through many tough projects, but every once and a while I'd get system errors or blue screens when working.

Anyone else laugh a little when he said "Intel of course" as if AMD doesn't have a very promising 6-core being released in a couple weeks.

Yeah Sorry about that. TBH I haven't really researched the AMD side of things since I left the Red team for the blue team 2 years ago so I've been out of the loop. But now that people have said it I'll look into it. Thx for the Info though.

Thx for the complement M80. I guess I'll look into these new AMD CPUs.
