It's the big end of year English exam (one of the two, actually) and its basically about books that where set work. The issue with it is that it forces you to memorize quotes, passages, etc, etc. And just a lot of rote learning.

Not only that but they decided to redo the whole grading system and we're the first year to take it!

Yep, this is the awkward inbetween year when some subjects use the new grading system and others use the old one. It's going to be generally messy for 2017/18 candidates.

GCSE has a Literature Examination which discusses poetry, plays or novels.

 

You have to use quotes, Point Evidence Explain Link and things like that to get marks.

I was a graduate of the GCSE in 2015. I passed my English (Lit and Lang) by the skin of my teeth.

An open book IB Computer Science Paper 2 Exam is in order. But this is such an obscure subject and paper and so it will never happen.

My English GCSE was open book, at least the one on the book. I think we did to kill a mockingbird and I remember mine was full of postits, bookmarks and pencil scrawlings. It must've changed recently or something. I remember when my little sister (now in second year uni) was doing them she was allowed a book into the exam.

 

If you really know the book though then you'll memorise the important quotes. If you look at past exam papers' questions then there'll be a finite number of catagories that they can examine you on. Pick out 2 quotes for each category and analyse them in your head and it's a guaranteed A*. Remember, every child in the country is in the same boat as you are so the grade boundaries will be adjusted to compensate for a lack of knowledge of the exact quotes. Arguably, the change makes it easier for bright students to get A*s.

 

Also, the person writing the petition blurb clearly needs to learn how to use punctuation and get used to writing numbers out in full when writing formally, it was really annoying me.

But IB numbers are high like thirty-something rather than <10.

Like the best way to tackle grade inflation was to introduce the EBacc system like Gove wanted but no, now it'll probably continue.

IB grades for subjects though are not.

 

Each subject has points ranging from Level 1 to Level 7.

 

These levels get added up together for each subject if they are doing the full IB diploma.

 

Level 7 - Amazing Student

Level 6 - Great Student

Level 5 - Good Student

Level 4 - Ok Student

Level 3 - Slightly underperforming Student

Level 2 - Significantly underperforming Student

Level 1 - Not even trying.......

The numbers are not as confusing for me since IB uses numbers but to each their own.

 

GCSE now uses 9-1.

 

I think this is how it now works for GCSE....

9 = A*

8 = A

7 = B

6 = C

5 = D

4 = E

3 = F 

2 = G

1 = U

At our school it is:

 

9 = High A*

8 = Scrape A*

7 = A

6 = B

etc....
