AMD won’t be providing Windows 7 drivers for its upcoming Ryzen processors, the company said, contradicting recent reports that indicated AMD would support Microsoft’s older operating system.

AMD confirmed that it has tested and validated Ryzen on Windows 7, but that it won’t officially support the OS. It puts to rest the suggestion of a recent translated report from Computerbase that AMD would reverse its stance and ship Windows 7 drivers for Ryzen.

“To achieve the highest confidence in the performance of our AMD Ryzen desktop processors (formerly code-named ‘Summit Ridge’), AMD validated them across two different OS generations, Windows 7 and 10,” AMD said in a statement in response to a question from PCWorld. “However, only support and drivers for Windows 10 will be provided in AMD Ryzen desktop processor production parts.”

It appears according to the article that that was either mis-translated or not correct. AMD's official position I guess is no windows 7 support. Like it may turn on, but no driver or software support unless your on windows 10.

But where is their proof of AMD confirming they wont in the PCWorld article? Its fine claiming they have, but with no proof, it means nothing.

Like it says, the PC might be bootable, but there will be no support of windows 7 users.

Chances are it will work fine with Windows 7 and 8 / 8.1, it just means if you have an issue with Windows or a problem with a Driver they wont help you fix the issue because it's not supported

It's quite "hilarious" to see yet another report that contradicts another. I'm just going to wait for Ryzen and Vega to launch and see what is actually true and what is not.

"Hilarious" isn't what I would use. >:(

I have seen that as well, and even though Kaby Lake seems to be ok"ish" with it, I think there might be more problems with Ryzen.

Who cares? No one should use Windows 7 today.

Watching Intel have competition is like watching a headless chicken trying to get out of a mine field

I'd imagine it's basically like what JayzTwoCents showed us from the video others have already shared. I'm considering other operating systems like Linux Ubuntu though, but I've never actually used them.

Why not? Windows 7 is still the only Operating System for a huge amount of Software that isn't updated for use on Windows 8 or 10 that industries still need to use, Same reason Windows XP is still widely used, not saying your wrong but theres a lot of reasons you would still need to use older operating systems.

Do you not know how much money it would cost for businesses and schools to deploy W10 to almost every machine and make sure that nothing breaks or loses support for certain software?

While I am agreeing with this more and more each day, AMD and their hardware is very popular in the Asian market and business and sales wise it would make sense to support windows 7 at least for a few more years. No reason to cut out a potentially large volume of customers still using (most of the time pirated) a slightly old os

Silent build - You know your pc is too loud when the deaf complain. Windows 98 gaming build, smells like beige

I think Windows 7 is still just fine, would rather use a typewriter and mail my posts to this blog then use xp though :D. I typically use newest OS simply from the standpoint I usually like to use the latest features for hardware.

The hilarious part is that I did a Windows 10 deployment at a school I work at. It's actually fairly cheap for educational institutions, especially with grants.

Can someone tell me what's WRONG  with windows 7? Mayne I don't want all this additional crap the added in windows 8 - 10. I honestly don't care about dx12 even tho I have gtx 1080. I really don't like what they are doing with w10 and how they force users to have stuff they don't want. I'm considering jumping to w8.1 if ryzen will support it.
