would you buy a dual core unlocked cpu for a price of locked quad core cpu?

Core i3 micro processors aren't aimed for using more than either 2 cores yada yada yada. They aren't for overclockers so since they're cheap they're mainly put in low cost systems to be sold to your everyday consumer house hold

Why Doesn't Intel sell a low end overclockable i3 processor? Wouldn't that be great for budget builds? A really fast i3 would be great!

Isn't i3 actually dual core and has like 4 cores from hyper threading? Like virtual cores or something? And an i5 actually has 4 cores?

i would like to see all the cpus from intel unlocked .but this is not a perfect world. no more i5 4430 4440 4440s 4570 4570s,r 46...err you get it.

however that would be great. first gen i3s can be overclocked to i3 ivy/haswell performance

Actually no, a very fast i3 is an i7 (since i5s don't have hyper threading).

 

Well I think the real reason is that people would be more reluctant to buy i5 since they can easily close the performance gap with a decent OC.

no its not.. there is no dual core i3 or any dual core CPU that can even come close to my core i5 2500k quad core CPU that is running at 4.6Ghz. even at stock there is no way it the same.

as I states I i3 isnt a i5 a i3 is a dual core and a i5 is a quad core, I think your overestimating how much a difference hyper threading does
