I am going to be overclocking. (hence the watercooler and the 215W TDP GPU's)

What are your thoughts on this?

Looks solid. I personally would go for a EVGA G3 or G2 750W. But Corsair is excellent too.

If you plan on overclocking the gpus and cpu I would get 850 watt.

I just need the VRAM for octane and after effects - I am fully aware of how overkill it is on a gaming front considering I have a 1080p 60Hz monitor :')

I'd dump one of the GPUs for an X99 system, unless said video editing software can really make use of the GPU.

I'd also argue for 3D work, you don't really need a uber performer.

I was looking into x99, however it just seems to be going so expensive right now

Is x99 really that much better, price to performance wise?  I'd only be able to afford a 6800k possibly the 6850k.

Of course a 6 core will help but you won't hit any bottlenecking with an overclocked i7-7700k.

You don't need 1080 in SLI

Video editing would greatly benefit from X99

HandBrake v0.9.9 LQ Film

HandBrake v0.9.9 2x4K

Hybrid x265, 4K Video

Thank you for the reply, I'm definitely going to go for an 850W PSU.  Also, what stops you from going to the x99 platform?  I'm hesitant because of price and I don't really see a huge difference over the 67/7700k (considering that I would only be able to get the 6800/6850k.)

What's your monitor set up?

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

Currently I have a pretty default 1080p monitor, however I'm looking into getting my hands on either a 4K display or a 2K ultrawide.

At the time pricing was also a problem. It wasn't in my budget to buy a 6 core. But if you could live with one GPU you could move into the X99 platform and buy a second GTX 1080 down the road. And as far as the difference between the 6700k and the 7700k there really isnt any. KabyLake can overclock higher though. I would just get KabyLake though if this is your first system or if you don't have anything on the SkyLake platform built yet, ie. a mobo or an i7-6700k. I built my system about a year ago so SkyLake was the latest and greatest.

Here's my attached review of the i7-6700k, maybe it will help you.

Thank you for attaching the review.  I'm currently still on AM3+, with the FX9590 (Don't ever go there, it was a b**** to get running) so right now I'm looking to buy the best for my budget.

Currently I have a pretty default 1080p monitor, however I'm looking into getting my hands on either a 4K display or a 2K ultrawide.

So then ya upgrade your display, there 0 point in buying even like a single 1070 for a 1080p 60hz display

I'd suggest an RX 480 8gb, GTR being the best one, and just running AAA games at 1080p Ultra 60fps, and then upgrade to Vega or the 1080ti, dual GPU set ups are never the best idea, and you need a titan XP to do 4k 60fps, 1080p scales perfectly to 2160p, although you may want a 40" 4k display for productivity

lighter games should do 4k without much issue

Included is a 27" 4k IPS free-sync display, that SSD isn't like the 960 Pro which is super fast, you'd only need that if you were maybe editing 4k footage, not to mention you could get double the storage for the same price or less

G-sync displays with the same specs start at 797 GBP, so I'd certainly stick to free-sync

You should really like downclock and undervolt that to like 4.5ghz max

I just hope you didn't pay full retail price for it
