should i update my gpu's bios?

Nope. BIOS updates are typically fixes for some issues, not performance improvements. If you're not experiencing any issues, don't upgrade as you can run the risk of bricking the card if something goes wrong during the update. Drivers are where performance improvements are. 

got a gigabyte gtx 1080 downloaded this program for setting clocks etc now i see theres a button there to update bios, should i let it update?

General rule of thumb for BIOS updates is that if there's nothing wrong, don't update (unless there's a specific features you want from the update). There's always a certain risk when updating a BIOS.

it says there under update notes " release for samsung memory" wtf is that

By looking at their site, it seems like different cards have memory from different manufacturers. They also have BIOS updates for Micron memory cards. It's basically just noting what type of memory the BIOS is for.

bottom line is there will be no performance improvement from upgrading?
