Zagarott

Hey all

Just wondering why i can't seem to get good frames in WoW

PC Specs are

I7-5820K

Sapphire R9 390x Nitro

16gb Ram

on a 1440p 144hz monitor BenQ XL2730Z

Do have a second monitor 1920x1200

If i try max all the settings in wow my frames drop like sub 30

It's really hard to tell with those bloody MMOs. It should be fine, but in the end they work however they want.

Just try it and see what happens.

It looks noticeably horrible and unplayable scaling it down, like super fuzzy compared to native

and still sub 30 frames

390X is more than enough for those games, you could run most AAA titles @60FPS @Ultra with that GPU. It's just really hard to tell what's up with those MMOs, TERA Online runs like garbage on my 6700K @4,7GHz and OC'd R9 Fury @1200p cause the game just runs like shit. I'd reinstall the GPU drivers and the game itself and then think about other solutions.

You said you have a second monitor, unplug that one and run only the 1440p one.

A 2nd 1080p monitor connected that isn't being used, or just with browser windows open etc, shouldn't make much of a difference.

WoW is going to be CPU bottlenecked for the most part, you'll see more FPS benefit from OC'ing your CPU than just about anything else.

If WoW runs bad on 1440p Ultra with R9 390x it is not because of the GPU but because these games are heavily CPU bound in most cases.

What driver do you have currently installed for your GPU? There is currently an issue where on startup the Merory Clock speed is limited to 150Mhz.

MMOs are CPU bound. Also check for what @GonzoPoetsaid. If you have this issue, use a pre relive driver.

Don't think it should be CPU, mines got a small OC to 4ghz (still new to OC so just used the onboard software to auto do it)

Going to try reinstalling both WoW and Drivers

With the latest expansion all the settings got increased by quite a bit especially view distance.  What use to be a 10 on the slider now falls around a 7.  On top of that the new expansion areas are way  more resource heavy than anything seen before in wow and of course these areas are the most populated.  Hop into the old world zones and knock down view distance to a 7.

Even my system that has a overclocked i7 and gtx1080 struggles with the new areas with the slider at 10.

I also notice I lose quite a bit of frames when I go from fullscreen to windowed or borderless modes.

Drop your view distance and shadows down. Those eat up a lot of resources. Also AA does as well. In raids, battlegrounds and capital cities your fps will always have sub 60 drops due to how many other players are around you.
