Best DSLR under 650 canadian dollars?

Daniel Z.

I want to get a cheaper DSLR (because cheap mirrorless cameras are trash) for less than 650 canadian dollars. I was looking at this and i want your feedback. Also if that is good I want to know of a good lens for it.

Thanks

I did some research and found that the D5200 is better than the T5i. Should i use the D5200 with a Nikkor DX f/1.8 35mm or a AF-S DX NIKKOR

I wouldn't say cheap mirrorless are "trash". So if you belive that I would strongly suggest you tries to aquire some more accurate information.

Other than that pretty much any entry level dslr as they perform about the same. Its the person holding the camera that does the work.

They may not be trash but they still are not as good as DSLRs in the budget category

Imo it purely depends on what you want/need. For example as soon as you need video there are a lot mirrorless options that makes sense. Also portability and such. IQ is not really much differnece either from my experience but its rather the lensed that will differ.

Depends on what you want to do really. For portraits and a such the 35 1.8 is a nice lens. However you wont get any wide fov or "tele" as you would with an 18-55 which may be interesting for landscapes. Are you getting the lens separate or in a kit with the body?

I am getting the lens separatley, best buy has a sale. I just got 2nd place in an art contest with a picture i took with a DSC HX-50 at about 10 o'clock on New Years Eve. that is the style of picture i will be taking. Mostly closeups and portraits.

I guess the judges at the contest saw that there wasn't really any better choices available to choose from and decided something was better than nothing.

You can take the same kind of photos with the included kit lens of any entry level DSLR.  No need to spend more money on buying a lens separately.  It would just be a waste.

Tbh for that the kit lens is more than enough. However something like the Nikkor 60mm f/2.8 Micro (macro, donno why its called micro) lens would be a pretty sweet option for a decent price.
