Try with onboard, if problems (not loud enough) get a Schiit Fulla 2.

Definitely get a DAC and AMP. I'm ordering a DAC and AMP from Schiit just as SSL recommend earlier this year.

After a lot of research and reviews I'm getting a Vali 2 and a Modi Multibit as my first AMP and DAC for my HD600s.

This is a good player: Foobar2000

yes, WASAPI event in 24b. I've been listening to whatever DSD, 192k24b and 352.8k24b audio I can find for free :P

I'm actually really impressed with my onboard, will let you know when I actually order the schiit gear.

Have you had a chance to try Jriver? It's what I use on my laptop, and I've really been enjoying the hell out of it. (Supports WASAPI natively, and it can be the default audio output device in Windows, so you don't actually have to hit stop every time you want to play something else - although I've found that it's a bit laggy with video.)

Hey! New SIgnature!

I'm supposedly a person on the Internet, but you'll never know if I'm human or not ;)

Nope. Foobar does exactly what I want in terms of organizing my music.

I prefer using WASAPI exclusively for Foobar, as it keeps system sounds and autoplay videos from destroying my ears while listening to Arvo Part.

I feel it.

I generally use Jriver only for A/V stuff, and just let the rest run through windows to my DAC, same as you.

I really liked foobar while I was using it, it's a great program! (I mainly switched because I wanted something that could handle music and video equally well as foobar handles audio, and that's exactly what jriver was for me.)

the sennheiser hd 650's are bomb as hell. if you dont mind a lack of bass, the audio technica ath-900x is a great piece of audio too. the soundstage is fantastic but, they do lack some low end imo. i found some on groupon for under 140 USD.
