How do I go about getting an internet connection on a pc?

MrIceCremeLollipop

So I just got an old pc from a friend and I want to go about getting internet on it to re purpose it.

But I dont have a wifi card for it. And I only have 1 ethernet cable upstairs, Which is going into my main pc which I am not unplugging for this new one.

So, Can somebody tell me how to get this online?

I have:

An ipad mini 2

A galaxy tab 4 7.0

An ethernet cable coming from my router.

A usb drive.

Im not buying anything.

I hope this makes sense, Thanks in advance :)

Get a small splitter for your ethernet cable, split the signal? I just can't see how you're not going to spend ANY money on this.

Sorry but their is no way to do this for free. It's like saying How can I install Google Chrome on your new BMW. You just can't... Without a WIFI card their is no wifi connection. The only way I can think of without buying anything is to stick the Ethernet cable into the PC and router if it is long enough. Unless you have a Ethernet routed house.

Your android tablet might have the ability to be used as a usb to wifi adapter. Connect it to wifi and then use the usb tether feature to get it to work as a network adapter in windows. android 4.4.4 has this, i have no idea if your tablet supports/has it it though

You can use 2g/3g as well, it'll just be slower.

Believe me, every computer store has a splitter and network cable. I'm confident you can go out and find it today.

Does your router have any other outbound ports? Most routers these days have 4-8 outgoing ports to connect to ethernet devices.

You can buy a 5 port switch for $15 and use that. Run the cable that goes to the router to one port and then two other cables to your main PC and the other PC. Short of that you could, if your motherboard has two ethernet ports, daisy chain from your computer to the other.

Nah, he doesn't want to buy anything apparently... he's obviously hoping there is some kind of magic solution to not getting another ethernet cable or a wifi adaptor :xD
