This problem is going to be the death of me.

I was playing BF4 and went to check my temperature for my CPU and GPU. The CPU was 70c and so was the GPU. This is very high for the CPU since i have a H100i, and it was never like this when i bought it. I came to the conclusion that the Thermal Paste needed to be changed. So as i was doing that i decided to clean the dust out of my computer using a air compressor. I did not yet change the thermal paste to check if it was the dust causing issues. After i turned on my computer i was getting about 60c on IDLE, i was very worried and then my computer just switched off. I turned it back on and it said on my POST screen "Warning CPU overheat." I'm not sure why this was coming up now after i cleaned it and not before. I had not taken off the block from the CPU so i don't understand what caused it. I then changed the Thermal Paste and moved the graphics card 1 slot down.

I had problems with my computer after this, it would not even reach POST it would just hang on a black screen. The motherboard which is a Asus Maximus IV Extreme-Z was giving me the error 55. This mean no ram is installed, from this moment i have been spending 2 days now, with no break trying to fix this PC. In this period i have changed the thermal paste about 4 times, this is a job that is killing me because i have to take the fan of the radiator to remove the ram. I then got advice to check the back of the case to check if the H100i mount may of been touching the case since i moved the graphics card down which could of caused the motherboard to bend. I put a piece of paper between the mount and the back side. The computer booted, but i only had 1 ram stick inside. I went to see the BIOS and check if replacing the thermal paste had fixed the cooling problems but no. The CPU was about 50c on boot and this was in the BIOS with no OS running, the temperature started to climb slowly and went up by 1.

I then changed the thermal paste again incase i put to much or to little, i also decided that i should move my graphics card up to where it was and remove the piece of paper and also put all my ram sticks inside. Then again it gave me the error 55, but it couldn't of been because i removed the paper because the computer had been arranged like this for months without problems. I then removed all the sticks and just left 1 again and the computer booted.

The question i am asking is. Why is my CPU temperature so high, could it be because of the year old thermal paste i am using "which is Cooler Master" or has the H100i died. The other question is why is my ram not working now? All of this happened after the sudden switch off.

I am desperate for help and really need someone who can help me with this problem without me having to buy a new mother board and CPU.

Power Supply : Antec 750w

CPU : Intel i7 2600k "no-overclock"

Thank you very much.

Thermal paste "goes bad" after about 5 or so years. Odds are you H100i is dying, contact Corsair and RMA it.

Try turning your computer on, and feel the tubes of the H100, to see if you can feel the liquid flowing. The pump might be dead and in that case you need to RMA it

@DEcobra11 Well I'm not really sure how how it is but it is fairly hot.

Anyways i got an update on this, i turned on my comp again and I'm getting about 48-52c on idle. This is strange because temp was rising before now its stable, its like the thermal paste needed to set or something. But 50c on idle is still a whole lot. As soon as i open a application like google chrome the temperature rises to about 55c and the more load i put the higher temperature it gets. The fans are also at 100%.

If the pump was dead, your temperatures would be way higher. It may be dying though.

The liquid inside the H100i is distilled water with additives to prevent organic growth and corrosion from occurring.

@Godlygamer23 I bought the H100i about 3 months ago, i need to be certain if it really is dying and its  not the thermal paste that i have used, tomorrow i will be getting some Arctic paste, if it does not solve my problem i would have to replace it, and as i am in Australia it will take a long time to replace.

I doubt it's the thermal compound, especially considering it's been in this setup for a while without issues.

Did you try different sticks in the same DIMM slot?

Thank you very much.

This happened to my H80.

I bought a new one and they said the pump was faulty ( Going on and off)

So my guess is that this is happening to you aswell.

Ok so the news is over night Corsair approved my RMA and now will send it back. When i get the new one ill come back here and tell you guys if it has fixed the problem, in the mean time i might try use the Stock cooler. Thanks for all the help. I also found out that two of my ram sticks are dead. I'm not sure how they died but it must of died when i got the grounding issue.
