It's very likely coming. I wouldn't be surprised if they're waiting to see if AMD makes a move soon. Nvidia is still at the top for performance graphics cards, so there's not a huge incentive for them to release something better yet.

I'm pretty sure it's still coming. They probably had no reason to launch it yet since AMD is most likely not launching Vega on at least 3 months.

They're probably going to wait and see how Vega goes. And if the announcement this morning is anything to go by. Probably won't have to bother.

The 980ti was announced nearly a year after the 980. Probable summer this year we'll hear of one

It's almost definitely coming. However, they are probably waiting for Vega. It could be risky though, because people might end up waiting for the Volta 1180 (presumably that would be the name).

Anyway OP, NVIDIA is probably waiting on what else AMD says about Vega before announcing. NVIDIA did this when AMD spilled the beans on the R9 Fury and NVIDIA simply went "Okay, here's a 980 Ti ready for sale!"

 

It's also unlikely that Volta will be ready anyway until at least 2018. And neither side has not been above releasing a high end card within a year of the next generation.

so long as AMD has nothing that can tickle a GTX 1080 nvidia has absolutely no need to gift us a discounted GP102 GPU.

that level of performance, right now...it's 1200$ take it or leave it, and you would be amazed at how many enthusiasts pushing 4K gaming are ordering them in pair.

It's pretty obvious they're waiting to see what AMD does with Vega first..  This has always been the case.
