USB Type-C to VGA Windows

I built a desktop with the Asus A170-p that has USB Type-C on it. I have a GTX 1060 with the only HDMI port being used for my main monitor but I just bought a USB Type-C to vga for my motherboard but my other monitor wont turn on. Do I need to install Intel HD graphics for my 6600k or am i missing something else?

You need enable it in the bios first

A USB video adapter usually is its own thing. It does not run on either GPU. Find out if there are drivers for the adapter itself.

Its not using usb, its using the secondary modes of type c

I'm led to believe that's not the case considering:

  • VGA is not one of those modes (though I wouldn't put it past it being DP to VGA)
  • USB 3.1 Gen 2 is not a native feature of any modern motherboard or as far as I know, OS. Windows might've added it in the W10 Anniversary Update. Either way, most USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports are going through a secondary controller, which may not support said secondary mode.

EDIT: I believe most USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports on motherboards use ASMedia's 1142 chip. Their marketing blurbs seem to suggest it does not support video out as a secondary mode: http://www.asmedia.com.tw/eng/e_show_products.php?item=161&cate_index=160. Though that could just be they're labeling it as a USB compatible device and a generic PCIe device.

Which leads me to believe... did OP install the drivers for it? I recall now that, even though I have the W10 Anniversary Update, my USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports were unusable until I installed the drivers.

This leads me to believe your USB 3.1 Gen 2 controller simply does not support alternate modes. Alternate modes are not a requirement for USB 3.1 Gen 2 compliance.

But then that makes me wonder why it's not a regular USB to VGA adapter. That makes it look like a DP to VGA converter.

the connector probably doesn't support it.

Is the igpu enabled and in lspci or devicemanager

Why not just get a displayport to vga adapter.

Ok.

No. I was trying to get it installed but it says not supported?

I just might but I need to order it I was just at best buy so I got this. They dont have DP to vga.

I looked earlier and could not find anything to do with the IGPU.
