How is she liking it?

Considering that she wants it water-cooled, pretty well.

She's not complaining of having to walk away every few minutes for renders to be done. I'll include the build I made for her birthday in hopes that it helps you out.

Well as long as I can hit 4.5 GHz on the 6800k with an h100i, I guess I'll go with that

why not wait for ryzen? you will be able to get an 8 core in your budget.

yup....im going for the 7700k instead of the 6800k

You should really change the title of your thread as it's very misleading.  You're comparing an overclocked processor to a stock one that is obviously running poorly without mentioning any of it.

would a 6800k @4.5ghz beat a 6900k at stock speeds in cinebench?

No, and that would be an above average overclock for the 6800k.  4.5 to 4.6 are considered above average.

This is the CB R15 for my old 6800k.  It was overclocked to 4.6 GHz with cache at 3.1 GHz.

Cache and memory have a big impact on CB scores so try to know all of the information before comparing scores or you might not get the complete picture.

Actually at max overclocks, the 6900K and 5960x are equals with the 5960x often slighly edging out the 6900k.

I watch these chips closely as I'm always teetering on making the switch back to Broadwell-E.  I've been waiting for production improvements to yield higher overclocks on Broadwell-E, but I don't think it's going to happen.  At this point we're too close to Skylake-X to bother switching.

With that said, performance differences in HWE and BWE are a wash. 6 and 8 core variants are equal with the only real gain from BWE coming in the form of the 6950x thanks to additional cores.
