Kaspersky and Malwarebytes.

I would also look into @ShadowTechXTS's 2nd antivirus.

only the free version of AVG spams ads.  sort of a shame, but they had to cover the costs, somehow.  They even asked for donations for a period of time because they didn't want it ad-based.

Yeah obviously, but I'm not going to pay for something if there are free options just as good available.

If I have tons of spare money to pay for something like an antivirus I would pay for something better than AVG.

At this point in time, antiviruses are failing as actually being useful.  Maybe useful, but not necessary and could definitely be more of a nuisance than not.  I am a security enthusiast, so maybe I see it from that point of view.  I think if you're smart enough to be cautious online then you're smart enough to not need an antivirus.

However, I would still recommend a good security solution.  Definitely not malwarebytes, while it's good software in my opinion it's kind of mediocre compared to the good solutions out there.  If you want to stay free you can use something like Windows Defender in combination with EMET which is made by Microsoft to mitigate exploits.  You can use a free antivirus like AVG or Avast, not bad but certainly not the best.  Better than paying for an antivirus and probably offer about the same level of protection.

I highly recommend this if you are willing to purchase. https://heimdalsecurity.com/en/.  This is not traditional security software, although it says it works with traditional antivirus.  I suggest only using the full version alongside Windows Defender.

You don't need a firewall other than the one included on Windows, and you don't need all those other security software offer.  Better security can be gotten for free.  You can use the NoScript browser extenson, DuckDuckGo and Firefox to protect your privacy, the Tor browser bundle which I beileve is getting sandboxing too if you really want privacy.  You can use sandboxie to manually sandbox applications, you can use EMET for exploit mitigation, you can use Norton Power Eraser or TDSS killer for malware removal.

I know this might not be the answer you're looking for.  But it's my genuine answer, so I hope it's helpful.

As long you don't go around downloading random shit from the web or mess around with torrents, Windows Defender and Common Sense v.13.7 should be more than plenty.

There have been no need for the last 20 years. The firewall on the router, mac-filtering and a software firewall. Both settings "paranoid". If you still need something else then maybe tin foil hat HA HAA !!!
