it's on sale atm on steam never played any of the other witcher games how fun actually is the game how many game play hours and how hard is the game, i really hate easy games that take like 10 hours to beat. Also is it one of those games where you have to of played the other ones to understand the story line and game play etc?

I have over 150 hours or so of playtime in the game from just two play-throughs (did a new game+ run my second time). The DLC expansions are also very very good in how much content they have.

Witcher 3 should be a benchmark in how much content you get in an RPG.

It may help but I don't think you do - I didn't play the first one and I only played the second for like 30 minutes before giving up. You could probably read a Wiki or something on the first couple games to get an idea.

I never finished Witcher 2, only a few hours played, and I understood mostly everything. It's a great game, you won't be disappointed if you enjoy games like Skyrim.

well i have over 300 hours on skyrim so if it's anything like that i'll love it

Its nothing like Skyrim. It plays differently, story is vastly supperior and more detailed. Game is hard and very long especialy if you want to complete everything. I have over 100h played and I havent finished it yet and I dont even have the DLCs yet.

You can play it without playing the previous games or reading novels. The in game journal has a lot of information you would want to know if you will feel like you are missing on to something.

You may not catch all the references though. Still worth it every penny.

Witcher 3 is the best rpg I've played in almost 5 years so I'd say it is worth it, it has a unique style

Are you talking about Skyrim?

Because yes. You're right. Finishing every quest takes time >.>

I only have Steel Plate armor and nightning gale armor.

I am talking about Witcher. I dont understand why people are comparing it with Skyrim as there are huge differences.

Skyrim is one huge open world map while in Witcher you have huge regions and loading screens between each region.

The voice acting in Skyrim is medicore at best in Witcher 3 it is excellent.

The story in Skyrim is fun in core but quite simple and with almost none branching while in Witcher 3 the story leads to many different endings, is very detailed and even the side quest rival many main quests in many other RPG games.

Skyrim combat is vastly different from combat in Wticher 3.

In Skyrim you create your own character and choose your gameplay in Witcher 3 you play as Geralt the Witcher and master swordsman.

etc..

Skyrim is still better, imo. (─‿‿─)

It wouldn't hurt, although I've still never gotten very far into The Witcher or The Witcher 2. There's a lot of lore in 3, but understanding the basics is enough. If you find it interesting enough you'll find ways to read more about it. It's one of my favorite games of all time, and if you have even a passing interest in single player RPGs it will probably be enormously enjoyable for you.

You really don't have much to worry about with regards to length or combat difficulty. On the hardest or second-hardest difficulty level, the combat scales really well all the way to the end, and you can't really trivialize the combat system just by leveling up. It's a really active combat system based on parries and two separate types of dodge, and you're always encouraged to avoid damage completely. It's rewarding and makes your twitch skill feel important.

I'm not home so I can't check my hours played on GOG Galaxy, but I think it's nearly 300 hours for two playthroughs of the base game and completion of both expansions once. That's with all (or nearly all) side quests, though I don't bother with 100% map completion. The game has skippable filler content as well, but the side quests are fully voiced and so well written that they are really no worse than the main quests.

I was pointing out the differencess since everyone seems to compare those games. While Witcher 3 is vastly better in most aspects that doesent automaticaly mean it is a more fun game to play. Some people may not be interested in such a complex and detailed story and want to just play and for those I would argue Skyrim is a better choice.

Although Im not usually an RPG player, this game is absolutely amazing!

Playing the first games may help you a bit with knowing the characters but its perfectly playable as a standalone.

The side quests are very good. I normally get bored really quickly by sidequests, these ones are all different and creative.

Although the contracts can feel a bit repetative at some point.

The world itself is beatifull and I've spend hours just riding around on my horse through Velen and Skellige.

The DLC's are relatively expensive but worth it for sure, the Hearts of Stone extension will keep you bussy for about 15 hours (10 hours if you dont do all the side quests / constracts).

The Blood and Wine extension adds a whole new map (which is absolutely beatifull) and add another 20+ hours of gameplay (contracts excluded).

I think The Witcher 3 still does world-building, exploration, and (especially) combat far better than Skyrim did as well. Storytelling isn't the only, or even the biggest difference between them in my opinion.

I do think it's a little unfair to always compare the two games directly, though. The Witcher 3 has an advantage of about 4 years and the benefit of seeing what works and doesn't work in many iterations on the open-world RPG formula in that time. In 2011, The Elder Scrolls was really the only game doing what it does successfully. It should be no surprise that TW3 improves on a lot of that.

And to this day Skyrim is still one of the best modding sandboxes around. Having a more empty and less structured world + a blank slate player character is really helpful for modders.

I think you'd love Witcher 3 then, as it's another top notch action RPG. I have about 350 hours in it (after putting in about 250 hours on Skyrim). It's third person but it has an awesome storyline, the graphics are unbelieveable, it's filled with great side quests, and the Gwent card game is a lot of fun too. I didn't play either of the first two games either. Getting a game of the year edition is a must, as both DLC are really high quality stuff.
