And get a good UPS as well

Pretty overkill for its desired application. He also stated he doesn't need a monitor. I would also assume his hotel software doesn't need Windows 10.

A xeon for productivity

A 32gigs RAM for Chrome

An NVME drive for boot

A Bray disc for movies (maybe)

A semi modular PSU for cables

A 1050 because Xeon has no igpu

32GB

lolololololololol

Running 10+ tabs here, Excel running, god knows what else, not touching 4GB

it is a device to check in customers to a freaking hotel....

- you dont need a xeon

- you probably dont even need 8 gigs of ram, practically

- nvme? seriously? you're joking.

- watching full on bluray in the hotel lobby... sod off and read the freaking thread before you make yourself look stupid

- because anyone is gonna see a bunch of tied up cables in that thing

- A FREAKING 1050 FOR A DISPLAY OUT... you're kidding.. people cant be that shallow...

i'd guess they'd be running a windows pro something of some variation.

Hmm...you both have good points. I won't be there forever and I don't really want to tell the staff how to replace certain parts.

Well, I'm sure I'll think of something lol

If it were me I'd just order a ProDesk or something and be done with it lol.

Only from a selfish standpoint, saves being hassled if it goes wrong, being blamed for stuff etc.

I don't need a CD/DVD drive, we already have one.

32GB for Chrome? I'm sure we could get away with 8 and the system wouldn't slow down at all. I personally like 16 but that's just because I like spoiling myself, but I wouldn't go above 8GB if 8GB is all my boss needs.

This isn't a computer for gaming. While I'm certain someone will attempt to play a game during a night shift, it's not the goal in mind.

I think we'll just be running Windows 10 out of convenience. It's what all the co-workers know how to run.

if i was in your position, i'd give your boss this piece of advice:

look for a local company that provides total IT solutions, what they essentially do is offer your company any and all service they need in terms of IT, when something is broken you just ring them up and they fix your shit, etc.

it's not a cheap option, but the amount of time and headache it saves you (or rather, your buisiness) is worth the money twice over.

I'll keep it in mind. We're not a large hotel, mind you, we're a pretty small business of about 20 employees max with less than 100 rooms to fill out, but I think the information would be appreciated nonetheless.

thats what those companies exist for. when buisinesses that lack the funds for their own IT team, they basicly offer theirs as a "pay by the hour" kind of way. the biggest value in this is that while you may have one computer, their team probably maintains hundreds of the exact same machine, so if an issue arises, they essentially instantly know what's up, and likely have spares on hand.

How so? I could go cheaper, because his application requires even less horsepower than I gave him here.

"only" i3 isnt an issue, and 16GB ram is honestly a consideration, but probably not necessary.

Anecdotes don't apply to building, especially in small business. If you want to perpetuate a myth to justify IT spending or more expensive components, then I'm not sure what else to tell you.

I only included 16GB because the computer was so cheap already, and if he's gone from the company in the future, they wouldn't need a potential upgrade down the line.
