This is the best parts list you could get for $500, OP. The only change I could see would be maybe taking out the 500GB hard drive and getting an RX 480 instead of an RX 470 now, and once you save up $50 then just get a 1 terabyte Western Digital Blue hard drive. I wouldn't spend the $33 now on only a 500gb hard drive that could theoretically fill up very fast. It's your decision, if you feel you need the hard drive space the day or a few weeks after you assemble this computer. $50, hopefully, shouldn't take too long to pull together over a few weeks.

MSI GE72 Apache Pro-242 - (5700HQ : 970M : 16gb RAM : 17.3" : Win10 : 1TB HDD : Razer Anansi : Some mouse) - hooked up to a 34UM58-P (WFHD) in dual screen

iPad Air 2 (for school)

iPhone 6

either of @Gamessys or @Energycore's builds are really good. Its personal preference as to which one you pick. I would personally recommend @Energycore's i3 build. The one change i would make is not getting the Hitachi 500GB HDD. Save up a little more and get a WD 1TB Blue. Thats it. good luck building :)
