if the CPU was at 2 C that means the room was considerably cooler than that.  That seems like a bad idea for several reasons...

Is this watercooled with the rad outside or something?

Because that could be bad if the actual room temp was colder than that. Condensation and all.

Awww no. As a rule of home owning getting that close to freezing is very bad. I believe that is a bug

That's an error. Your CPU was not 2C. It would have to be colder than that in your room in order for that to be possible. If it went to 2C overnight, condensation would form and you would have bigger problems to worry about.

If it was water cooled, those are the kinds of temps where you'd actually need antifreeze in the coolent because freezing of the liquid would be a legitimate concern.  I imagine it wouldn't take much ice build up to block a water block or radiator

The water is always moving so it could get below freezing and still not ice up.

I don't think you quite understand how that works.  I understand your rational as it applies to plumbing and such but not the crux of it.  Moving water is constantly churning and mixing, meaning that warmer and cooler waters can mix and this prevents freezing.  But that's only if ALL of the water being moved is not at 0'C or below.  This is why turning on a tap can prevent pipes from bursting, it's not 'because it's moving' it's because the water is moving along into warmer areas before it manages to freeze.

 

If you get all of the water, such as the water inside a PC, which is a fairly small space, to 0'C or below, you can freeze it, moving or not.  If the CPU package is at 2'C and that's not a data error, then the water in the cooler could be a lot cooler.  If you were crazy enough to run a PC in a garage or shed in the dead of winter you could possibly freeze the whole thing solid.  I say 'possibly' cause I feel like a CPU would be enough of a heater in most cases to keep the water warm enough.

 

All this said, 2'C is probably a data error.

You should store your PC outside then. The wind chill is always a factor. At -25C tonight with a wind chill of an added -10C it should be interesting.

I like to have my room cold at night, I am a big oven I produce a lot of body heat. So the heat is off and I leave a window open behind my curtains. Keep my pc on to have music while I sleep to drown out noise. I just left cpu monitor open to see how cold it would get. Just saying that I have an A./C in my room during the summer every night.

Right now its is -35C outside and I got my fan on all day long, at night I point it directly at my bed and put the fan on high and go to bed. I like it that way and sleep experts say the same thing too. I also use green led alarm clocks as blue interferes with the brain. My problem is sugar intake, which keeps me up all night. It basically swapping addictions, but you dont lose shit with food but its all the same really whether it be gambling, food, working out every day for hours on end, working at your job for endless hours, illegal drugs, legal drugs, drinking too much coffee, smoking nicotine, sex, jerking off, self harm like cutting yourself. It comes from the way we think and our emotions whether we are anxious, nervous, shy, jealous, scared so what needs to change is not out there, its in the mind which is our thoughts. The way we think needs to change. I dont mind eating too many cheese buns, or drinking too much coffee, but if I am doing it to change my thoughts or feelings then its not far of a jump to booze or smokes or drugs. I dont mind the cold weather of Canada, I love white Christmases, used to love skiing and I dont mind driving in 2 feet of snow in the downtown core. Other adults wont do that, they are too scared whether its the snow and/or the traffic and/or the one way streets. Fuck man I have the sunroof open and the window down in the winter, moving my hand up and down in the wind like a wave and driving with one arm. Heck I even drive with my knee. I can do corners at mach 10 and not flinch while others do not know the meaning of a merge through lane or how to hack a roundabout. No man Canadian winters are fucking lame they are a cake walk if you dress for them. The only thing I need is long johns, jogging pants and some ski pants and some boots and I am good to go working outside. I laugh when I see wanna-be's wearing shorts and sandles in the winter, what a joke they are. I had some people ask to use my cell phone, I wondered why they kept looking at me, until I unplugged my ear phones they asked and I said no I gotta leave. They were some Nigerians under dressed for the weather 8pm and -35C outside. They were huddling to get a few moments of warmth in the Subway sandwhich store without paying for anything. I did not really have to leave though, I showed up a few minutes earlier to my destination then I wanted then the moaning and groaning started with the scripted speaches but I go for the laughs, there are some funny jokes spit out as it goes down the line around the room. A few fresh fish from the institutions showed up with their institionalized rhetoric, coming for the nostalgia of panties being thrown when someone bitched, or hiring hookers for someones b'day in the olden days. But the laughs were good and thats why we brave the cold Canadian winters.

well I like it cool too but it seems that you're taking this to a whole other level. If the CPU hit 2 C, the the room was probably at least -5 if not colder, and that's assuming it was an idle temp. At that level, traditional assumptions made about the temperature of things inside a house start to no longer be valid, and thus anything that relied on them can fail. One such example would be water pipes in the wall. They may be constructed in a location where it would ordinarily be safe to assume it would never get below 0; for example on the warm (interior side) of the insulation of an exterior wall. If these pipes were to freeze, they could burst and flood the room.

 

and that's nit even getting into the condensation debate, which does need to be brought up, but actually may not be nearly as bad as what everyone here seems to have assumed.
