I'd take the two monitors as it gives you more pixels. 34 inches imo is too big for 1080p (even at 21:9). If you're using this for gaming, however, two monitors would suck as you'll have your crosshair across the middle of the screen. If you are intending to game across both, I'm recommend looking into another solution altogether.

I plan (maybe) on a 2560x1080 and a 1920x1080 set up: One for games one for productivity but can switch around if the game or media is not supported.

Nah, 1080p 120Hz and a 1440p 60Hz IPS is obviously the way to go...1440p for dem screen estate and 120Hz 1080p for dem competitive edge :P

^The aforementioned. If you only want to game on a wider display, going with ultrawide is the better option. However, if you just want more screen "real-estate" for multitasking, including gaming while monitoring your PC and/or doing other stuff (watching videos, streaming), I'd say that two monitors are quite sweet f'ya. Not to mention that some games scale badly on ultrawide displays, which makes gaming on 1920x1080 more viable, and that becomes somewhat uncomfortable at 21:9, if you're the kind of person - like me - who thinks that black tags on the sides of the screen hinders immersion.

It all depends on your needs.

For gaming do not get a dual monitor setup, it's completely unplayable IMO. If you are content on playing on 16:9 and you want more screen for work, then I'd suggest a dual monitor.

Fair enough :P

Only problem with this set up is how I have to use 2 different web browsers :/

90% scaling in chrome on my 1080p and 100% scaling in opera on my 1440p...sigh, I just end up using one cause too much effort and I'm always like "why is this so big?" or "why is this so small?"

Any way, to properly answer OP's question, it's all down to what you're gonna do, dual monitors are very helpful if you're planning to stream, do some productivity that requires the real estate (or is easier to have 2 definite windows) or watch a stream while playing a game or doing some work with a single 21:9 being better for media consumption in general.

IMO dual monitors are more flexible but it's all down to your habits and how you use your screens :P

That's why I'm thinking of that set up: 23.whatever inch 1920x1080 with a 2560x1080 29" should pretty much match vertical sizes thus I'd need no funky scaling.

I just got a 34" 2560x1080 2 days ago, replacing 2 22" 1920x1080s. Regardless of gaming, which I don't do much of, I enjoy the single UW waaay more. Though I might lose some horizontal space, it's much nicer. The better gaming capability just adds to the fun. Also LG's OnScreen Control software is frickin amazing.

First world problems when both are 24 inches ;-;

Gotta love a 1440p ips with a PPI of 110 at my typical 1m~ viewing distance...whites are white, blacks are black, colours look vibrant, ...or at least that applies when your other monitor is a TN with really really shitty colours :P

I wouldn't get a 34" ultrawide unless you try it first. I find monitors that are that big and have a 1080p set up are a little too blurry for my liking. It actually gave me headaches trying to read for an extended period of time.

As others have said, it really all depends what you do. In some scenarios 2 screens will be advantageous, in others it won't.

We need more info.
