Oh trust me I have. My friends and I were having a great laugh over them, and motherboards with 64 ram slots.

Because they have a modular structure for iGPU, FPGA, ASIC, and DSP integration as well as HMC/HBM/eDRAM integration depending on customers' needs. Intel announced this would be a fully customizable platform, and it's the first company to offer such a thing.

Still can't get over the number of pins O.o

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

You think integrating all of that takes just a few pins? :P

Well, half the package is a CPU, and the other half is all the integrated acceleration. 450mm sq. for CPU cores (based on the E5 2699 V4), and another 300-400 mm sq. for the rest (based on a ~690mm sq. Knight's Landing Xeon Phi fitting under a smaller heat spreader on the same socket).

Nah, the biggest Intel ever made was (iirc) 720 mm sq. on the 90nm process for their top Xeon. Even GPUs don't get that big.

more just the 3647 pin socket size will seem small, and by a few years I mean like 6.

That I doubt. Pin sizes aren't exactly shrinking, so I doubt sockets will get much large based on motherboard size requirements.
